Who was the lowest picked Heisman winner ever.

Charlie Ward from Florida St. was not drafted at all. Jimmy Johnson said if he had been coaching at the time he would have drafted Ward in the 5th or so. Jimmy said you try to find a spot for winners like him on your team. Jimmy could have been blowing smoke, but I believe him.

Where have I heard that one before.......

Put QB B instead of A and you'll produce teh similar.........BS

QB A has a better chance to succeed because College A ran a system similar to the Pros..............bunch of BS.

No one knows how these guys will react when facing down the barrel.

The thing I find most amusing about your post is that you don't really have any idea what it is I'm saying but you can't wait to get started running in the incorrect direction.

Nice job there Chuck.

Yeah, but he was not drafted because everybody knew he was destined for the NBA. I think he would have been drafted had he not declaired that he intended to play in the NBA. Ward was also not found of changing positions as I recall. It's all relative I suppose. I think Smith is going to have a very difficult time getting snaps in the NFL. It's just a lot to over come and a very short window to learn and prove you can do it. It's going to be tough for him at QB IMO.

However, I don't think Jason White was drafted. Detmer was a 9th round pick. Flutie was an 11th round pick. I don't know when Mike Garrett was drafted. Roger was drafted in the 10th Rd. Joe Bellino was drafted really late, like 19th Rd. Dick Kazmaire was drafted in the 15th Rd. Bruce Smith was drafted in the 13th Rd. Clint Frank was drafted in the 12th Rd. So far as I know, those are the Heisman Winners that really went low. Could be more but those are the ones that I found.

It's the difference between College and Pro. I think that Smith is a heck of a football player but you put Beck or Zabransky on that Ohio State Football team and I don't know that they are not just as succesful or even more so. To me, Quinn, Russell, Stanton, Beck and from what I hear, Edwards are probably the top 5 guys at QB right now. Smith might even be asked to change positions which I think he should probably consider if he wants to play. JMO
Ouch. Somebody will take him as a QB.

Roger Staubach in the 10th round was the lowest the Heisman trophy winner has ever been picked. But at that time (1964) there were fewer teams and more rounds. I can think of at least one who was not picked at all. Several have been late picks.

The Heisman Trophy has absolutely no real value in the NFL, especially at QB. It is strictly a reward for a highly successful college season. Troy Smith will be selected as a QB, sometime 3rd round or later. The main reason will be he is only 6'0" tall. In the NFL that is hard to overlook, and overcome.

If we still need a QB and he is there at some point on Day 2, I wouldn't mind the Cowboys considering him, but I doubt we will.

I agree and I'm predicting Smith will go in the 4th rd of the draft. I think he has a chance to develop into a very good QB. He is very accurate with his passes and does a very good job going through his progression and spreading the ball around

Smith's lack of height will be an issue at the next level. Not sure how smart he is, either.

He is as tall as Drew Brees who has been able to overcome his lack of height and there of course have been others who lacked the ideal height who have had very good careers. As for the mental side of the game that is a question mark for every QB who enters the league, can you make snap decisions under pressure?

I like him as well, I cheered against OSU every time they were on TV yet walked away impressed by Troy Smith ability to play the game. So I don't say this as a fan of OSU or Smith.

I have him going in the 4th round, probably within the first ten picks. There's typically a rush on the fallers in the draft early on and guys projected to go in the first day get snatched up quickly.

Short QB's could be at a disadvantage, but Drew Brees has proven otherwise. That said, Brees' success has more to do with his mental understanding of the game than his physical aspects.

What do I have to draw you a picture? :laugh2: I work with a big time OSU homer who thinks OSU can do no wrong so after a while it became easy to go against OSU just so I could have some fun with him. :laugh2:
