You have Turpin on the return and you try to block a punt? that makes no sense, This coaching staff is just bad.
The soft zone Zimmer uses is terrible you are taking away your top CB's by having them play too far off the ball so its hard to get interceptions

Disagree set up a return to Turpin he can probably get it midfield then you only need 1 1st down to kick a fg, fake punt makes no sense

Except they only needed about 10 yards. Going for the block was stupid because a roughing call ends the game right there. Now, if Cincy was punting from mid-field, then I would agree.

You go for the block which they executed. They didn't count on the ghost of Sam Williams on special teams popping up. They had a better chance to win the game than relying on a 1 in 20 "what if" chance with Turpin. They would have been at midfield if the dude doesn't touch the ball.
They don't go for the block and Cincy directional punts it out of bounds, then what? Or they get good coverage and Turpin fair catches, then what? Turpin is good but he's not automatic.

I don't put it past Turpin but probably isn't a guarantee. Turpin very well could have fair catch the ball and Dallas has to drive down the field to get in scoring position. Could Dallas do it?? Sure. Me personally don't trust this Cowboys offense when defense has it ears pinned back to go get the QB.
Special teams were call to make a play, which they did and gave it right back. Those are the facts

It was just moronic to call a block there, anytime Fassel calls a fake a punt of block punt it never works he's a terrible ST coach that takes unnecessary risk

He was punting from his own 15 so he has to kick it deep or else its going to be a short punt, if Turpin gets it he gets some yards there. He's the fastest player out there set up a return and give him a chance to make a play. blocked punt is idiotic there. too many things can go wrong and they did, 4th and 26 and your getting the ball back.

When you look at the video, it does look like the Cincy blocker thought the guy who got through was going to peel back to block for the return and wound up whiffing to let him through.

Well you think they were going to punt and out kick their coverage to let Turpin return the ball?
They either would have kicked it out if bonds or forced a fair catch, which is the exactly the best time to try for a blocked punt.

You don't know what Turpin gets. On Turpin's best return, he fumbled the ball first, remember? Far from automatic or even a "good" chance. There's only one thing that can go wrong going for the block and that's hitting the kicker. The Dallas blocker executed while avoiding that so he did his job perfectly. Dallas doesn't touch it and they're in Aubrey's range already.

No theres alot that can go wrong on blocked punt, one of which happened. 4th and 26 your getting the ball back in good field position, he cant kick it short because of that so he's kicking to Turpin. If you dont think Turpin is a good returner then why is even on the team? That situation was made for his speciality. You cant take any chances there, set up a return and allow your fast PR to get some yards.
