Well you think they were going to punt and out kick their coverage to let Turpin return the ball?

They either would have kicked it out if bonds or forced a fair catch, which is the exactly the best time to try for a blocked punt.
Kicking it out of bounds is good because it would be a short punt. I rather take my chances on a return. How often do you see teams do that in that situation, almost never except with this stupid coaching staff

No theres alot that can go wrong on blocked punt, one of which happened. 4th and 26 your getting the ball back in good field position, he cant kick it short because of that so he's kicking to Turpin. If you dont think Turpin is a good returner then why is even on the team? That situation was made for his speciality. You cant take any chances there, set up a return and allow your fast PR to get some yards.
No way they let Turpin beat us. They would have punted out of bounds and/or high enough for a fair catch.

Punting out of bounds is good, he's punting from his own 15 so if he punt it out of bounds then its short
The dude kicked a 46 yarder and a 61 yarder (hit at 9 so went about 52 yards in air). The LOS was the 30.

So good chance if he angles it and it goes out of bounds, Cowboys are around/ inside their own 30.

The blocked punt call was not a coaching mistake.

blocked worked its just you have a player fresh off the injured list comeback and goodwin was out. But the pick in the redzone and going away from the run is what killed dallas

Here’s how you know your position is wrong.

Jerry thinks we should have not tried to block it. LOL.
I was on the fence. I could see either side, but you have closed the case. I can't refute it.

....with tied game and you have one of best kickers in NFL.

Who the hell comes up with these plays? ...lol..

They deserve to lose, all I can say.
Why wouldn’t you go for block when your offense sucks and you can’t move the football consistently and you abandon the run? This team is built off scoring defensive and special teams touchdowns….otherwise they will score 20 points and lose like they did.

Was a block called or did we just have a guy break thorough? Didn't look like we were coming after it intentionally.
Thats what I'm thinking. Vigil just got through and made a play. Didn't seem like any kind of designed block. I guess they could have gone full hold up return and not sent anyone.

What was wrong with the block? Not like Vigil destroyed the punter, got a 15 yard penalty and the Bengals got a first down.
Cowboys had a handful of practice squad guys up, and not to be mean, but it's more likely a screw up like that occurs with man #54-65~ than a guy who made the roster day 1 for special teams.

I think even some professional players are surprised at how a football can bounce. Even on kickoffs and punt returns, it's not easy to catch a kicked ball if never done before.

Noodle arm was fortunate to not throw a few INTs.

Problem is Rush went noodle arm on prior possessions and no run game
This is the answer. Even with Turpin catching the punt, the odds are against you advancing the ball off the punt return into the EZ or within FG range. Cooper Rush was playing so anemic, the staff chose to try and block the punt, which was executed and accomplished, and set Rush up 1st and 10 inside FG range. MM and the staff played the odds, given who our QB is and how poorly he was playing, and lost on a blunder by the ST unit. It wasn’t a stupid call at all imo.

Zero issue if they had a block call on. I understand the argument against it, but the best time to put one on is also when the other team thinks you'll be playing it safe. I also doubt that Cincinnati is going to give Turpin an opportunity to win the game there either. I'm sure they would have happily sacrificed 5-10 yards on the punt to kick it high or out of bounds.

The issue is a player who simply lacked fundamental awareness on special teams. If not for the touch after the block we are all taking about Fassel being a genius again.

2 minutes left and they are punting. We have the best punt returner in the NFL and the best FG kicker who can hit from 70. Why would you risk trying to block the kick????........ and then the players don't know the rules?
