Another day of practice and rest doesn't improve the quality ? Plus the teams coming off a Tuesday game would be playing on the next Sunday and packed Into the big slate of games so if they are tired it'll be unnoticed. Whereas a Tuesday game gives them plenty of rest for prime time. Everyone says the short turnaround makes for sluggish games right ?
Didn't say that another day of practice and rest wouldn't be beneficial, just that I don't think it would be deemed beneficial enough for the league to ever switch days.
And although I'd love for the NFL to play games every day of the week, I don't think the league would want to stack its primetime games on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Thursday gives it essentially a midweek game. (I'm also not sure how well the NFL could sell it to the networks in comparison.)
I truly believe the NFL would have gone with Friday night games if not for the conflict with high school football, which would lower its potential audience ... much like it went with Saturday games when college football was out of the picture.
It's never going to be about what's best for the players, but simply about what's the best way for the league to make more money.
