Why are 'we' always trying to surrender first round picks for low priority positions? Are first round selections considered a dime-a-dozen now?

worse yet, giving them up for another teams backup RB that CLEARLY hasnt done as much as the guys we currently have

He's an upgrade over Jones for sure.

But, I say trade Jones for a pick to someone, and sign a player like Dillon to back up Barber.

you must be joking...

Tennessee gives up:

1st round pick - 875 points
3rd round pick - 190 points

San Diego gives up:

1st rounc pick - 620 points
Michael Turner

That means Turner's valued at 445 points, which is about the 13th pick in the 2nd round. I certainly wouldn't give that up, but for the Titans that's not a terrible deal. It's definitely much less than what they were asking for.

umm, what has he ever done to say that he is better than jj or anyone else in the league for that matter?
Turner is not a Cowboys player, in his eyes that is all the justification needed to make a silly claim.

Given the number of teams showing interest in Turner, and given the fact that they all pick ahead of us...I'm losing hope. :(

Ahhhhhhhhhh, the diff. is that we can throw what San Diego wants out of the deal and that is a draft pick and a solid backup for Tomlinson.

If the status quo is the same as last year Dallas is going to lose Jones for nothing and Barber is not a back to build a championship around. He can be a good compliment or role player but won't take you there. Turner is the kind of back that can carry an offense when the QB is having an off day. A big back running downhill behind the huge offensive line would just kill defenses.

Yeah, he only averaged about 6 yards a carry last year and backed up the best running back in the league. Jones split carries and was yanked at crucial times in games when he was splitting time with Barber who is around the 30th best running back in the league.

Our Titans source tells us the team is "indeed very interested" in nabbing restricted free-agent Chargers RB Michael Turner after a "wonderful visit" to Nashville last week. The buzz is that the Titans offered their 19th overall pick and a 3rd-rounder for Turner and San Diego's 30th overall pick. So basically San Diego would just move up 11 spots in the 1st round plus add a 3rd-round pick. Turner's restricted tender actually calls for an extra 1st- (not just swapping up) and 3rd-rounder in compensation, so it's up to Chargers GM A.J. Smith to accept this lesser offer in a sign-and-trade deal. However, our source also says not only is Buffalo "really after him" but Green Bay is now "in the mix" as well... Fantasy Nation is watching this situation closely because not only could it shake up the NFL Draft with exchanged picks, many experts see Turner as capable of top-10 fantasy status in a feature role.

Dallas could and should beat that if it was legitimate offer.

that is insanity to give up anything more than a 5th for him. Everyone passed on him for four rounds why would you give anything up for him.

Julius still has a lot of ability. giving up that much for another guy is crazy.

this is why Turner doesn't deserve that much, if Turner can be found in the 4th round, you can find a back just as good the same way

Not only that theebs, but JJ has been more productive than him in every category yet somehow has less worth.

Irrational thinking is always humorous.

yeah plus jones who I think did struggle last year and had games where it seemed he didnt know where the hole was or the play was supposed to go still had a good year.

He has been as productive as any cowboys running back to this point. Isnt there a stat where he had more yards at this point than any other cowboy runner at the number of games he has started so far?

I will have to take out the media guide and look that number up.

Yeah and Brady was found in the 6th, Johnny Unitas was undrafted, Terrell Davis was around the fourth or fifth round so I guess they just fall from trees, lol.

That argument doesn't make any sense. How many players in the first through fourth round turn out to be good let alone studs? Not many. If it was that easy you could trade back every year and save a lot of money genius.

Now it is certainly debatable if Turner will be a stud. I think he will be with the right team. A team like Dallas that zone blocks with huge lineman followed by a bruising runner with speed.

The problem is that Dallas doesn't have a running back that does most things well. Jones has speed, Barber doesn't. Barber runs tough and Jones doesn't. Barber blocks and Jones doesn't. Barber catches and Jones not as well. Jones can bust a long run Barber can't. When Jones leaves, Dallas will have a huge hole in the backfield. In 2007 I think the combination will work well, but I am thinking a little longer term. Turner is a big upgrade over Jones and can carry an offense without all of the ego, tipping off the defense ball carrying v. passing, shuttling guys in and out BS.

If Wade Phillips doesn't go after Turner then who am I to say he should. Phillips has seen this guy in practice and games for a couple of years. The only thing we don't know is that he wants to get him but Jones won't let him.

michael turner is better than JJ simply because he can run over people as well as being fast.

Correction:

You think Turner is better because you think Turner can do all these things because you haven't seen as much of him as JuJo.

Those are the only facts in this equation. More facts: Turner has never carried the ball more than 80 times in a season and benefitted mightily from being the change-up back to one of the most prolific running backs in NFL history in one of the best schemes for a running back in recent memory.

All we know about Turner is that he's not Julius Jones. And that's good enough for some people, apparently.

Thats good enough for me.

Just cause JJ is a cowboy doesn't make him a very good player. Some of you need to take your silver and blue goggles off. If JJ was a Giant, a foreskin, or a Eagle, we would be laughing at him and the shoestring tackles that bring him down.

He's gone next year anyway, I say trade him to the Chargers plus a pick if they're willing to do it.

The Chargers want draft picks not another runner. We have Pinnock from So. Carolina and Sproles from Kansas St. as back-ups. Plus we have a couple of guys who were over in Europe who could battle for the back-up position. If the Chargers bring in another runner, he would be drafted on the second day of the draft or undrafted like Jesse Chatman. Plus, the Chargers are probably angling for the middle of the 1st round or higher when they swap 1st round picks with other compensation (i.e., another first day draft pick).
