I said for the experiment to be over months ago, I'm not ready to give up but I wouldn't mind seeing someone else out there. Yes you brave souls are going to say WHO WILL WE PUT out there, hell I don't know but have an open competition.

We can't have muffed plays on special teams in the playoffs. Like I said I'm not giving up on him, but something has to give. Maybe this is why we haven't seen him much on offense....

The guy is so small that his arms don't extend beyond his facemask. Its like having a T-Rex back there. He's had a few punts hit him in the face while extending his arms for the catch. Give me a bigger, rangy guy with good hands that will secure the ball and take a big hit without fumbling.

I miss having Tony Pollard on kickoff but I get why he's not. We do probably need to start looking for the next guy.

I don't think you make a change now. The guy needs to hang onto the football that's for sure, but....

1) He still gives you the threat to take it to the house every return
2) Returning kickoffs/punts is much more difficult that people make it out to be, I'm not sure playoffs first round is when you start making changes there

Very possible the guy has gotten a little cocky/arrogant over the preseason/first half, but if that is the case the last few weeks should have humbled him a bit. Plus keep in mind this is a guy who has already been through an entire season in another league this year. Could be at a point where he is just worn down mentally and physically. I hope that isn't the case as that is an issue that wont get fixed, but something to keep in mind.

Not even close
He’s had 2 fumbles yet he is near the top of the league in punt and kick returns

Over confidence is very possible
But it has to be taken into perspective
He’s near the top of the NFL in both punt and kick returns
As you said he brings a threat no one else on this team can

Pollard has had a longer kickoff return when the games matter in 2020 and 2021 compared to Turpin this year.

I know why they pulled Pollard off of kickoff duty with a bigger role in the offense but he was a stud at it in college and shown he can do it in the NFL. Wouldn't mind putting him out there with CDL on punt returns if we need a spark on special teams in the playoffs.

I’m not sure who is an alternative, but if they have someone that is simply capable, I make the change for the playoffs. At least during practice or even starting the playoff game to send a message. The FIRST job of a returner is to catch & hold onto the ball.

As a whole for the season, Turpin has been a net negative. He has 2 fumbles deep in the Cowboys territory, 2 other muffed punts that were fortunate to not be lost, a kickoff he jacked around with that was in danger of a safety or recovery inside the 5 yard line, and a host of kickoff returns that didn’t make it to the 20.

Now, that last point isn’t all on Turpin. But his threat t take one to the house every time just hasn’t resulted in him doing it or enough positive plays to offset the negative. At this point, it would be better to simply fair catch every punt and catch it, and not return any kickoffs, than produce more negative than pisituve.

You're spot on in saying perspective is key here. Between kick returns and punt returns only 9 have been taken back for TDs this year. Kickoffs have become more of a non factor in the NFL due to safety issues. Meanwhile punters in the NFL have only gotten better over the years, and punt teams have gotten more strategic. Unless return teams start to add new wrinkles I just don't see the return game being a major factor in 90% of games anymore.

I'm with you 100% on he has to catch the ball. I want my special teams units to not lose me games before they win me games. Turpin dropping the ball is a legitimate concern. I still believe if you have any intention of making that move you did it last week, not to start the playoffs.
