Turpin's return role

Didn't see this posted, but I thought it was interesting to hear from Fassel on Turpin:

Turpin, who joined the team last week after an MVP season in the USFL, has returner aspirations with Dallas. He began his first few practice days fielding punts in alternating reps with fellow rookie Jalen Tolbert, but seemingly has become the top option for doing so.

"I'm very excited. I have high aspirations for Turpin," Fassel said. "He's been on my radar since 2018. At TCU I watched every single one of his returns."

Turpin is really going to add some excitement and punch to the return game. I hope Fassel is working on those holding and illegal blocks in the back penalties. Nothing worse than a big return being called back.

I think we should also have a package for him as a wide receiver.

It's going to be tough to make some WR cut downs. Lamb, Gallup, and Tolbert are locks. Then probably 3 spots for these guys. Washington, Vasher, Brown, Turpin, Houston, Simi. You may be able to bring back 1 or 2 if placing Gallup and Washington on IR to start the season. I would think Noah Brown would be the best candidate for cut and sign later.

If Turpin is the best man for the returner job I presume he will take a spot with that versatility. I'm excited to see how the WR battle goes over training camp and the preseason.

If I told Dal had a WR that was 6’1” and ran a 4.29 40 time, he would be most people “pet cat” player. I don’t care that he’s shorter…if he can catch and run past opponents, I want him on the field.

If I told Dal had a WR that was 6’1” and ran a 4.29 40 time, he would be most people “pet cat” player. I don’t care that he’s shorter…if he can catch and run past opponents, I want him on the field.

He is a diminutive player so that may limit his touches on offense. If he can do what short guys like Darren Sproles did, he will be an interesting player to follow, however, I doubt he possesses the durability to last very long in the NFL.

Agree on Brown. No one seemed too excited about picking him up, so he re-signed with us. Shouldn't be that difficult to cut him and bring him back. Might be a player at another position. We did it with Goodwin last year, so we could do it again since most teams don't get too excited about signing a player who is just a special-teamer.

I just want someone to be a true threat in the return game. Lamb was somewhat of a threat, but not as much of one as someone like Dwayne Harris. Hopefully, Turpin can provide us with that. Don't know if he's seen as a kick returner as well as a punt returner, but would be good if he can handle both.

If you can be a dynamic punt returner, I don't care if you can be a factor at WR.

I'd say kickoff returner too but they are almost phased out these days.

I wouldn't include Turpin with the WR group. I would simply make an extra roster spot in Special Teams for him, which means leaving out one extra spot elsewhere. For example, don't include a FB spot in order to create the extra Special Teams spot for Turpin. You could still use him on certain pass plays when needed. This way this leaves an extra WR spot for your WR group on the roster.

True, but there are occasions. If he can do it, and we increase the Pollard's offensive role, I'm all for it.

tyreek hill is short, not sure what is wrong with short a lot of people have come out and fulfilled that role we had one not too long ago Cole Beasley... sometimes small and shifty is a good change of pace just like Zeke and Pollard
