Didn't see this posted, but I thought it was interesting to hear from Fassel on Turpin:

Turpin, who joined the team last week after an MVP season in the USFL, has returner aspirations with Dallas. He began his first few practice days fielding punts in alternating reps with fellow rookie Jalen Tolbert, but seemingly has become the top option for doing so.

"I'm very excited. I have high aspirations for Turpin," Fassel said. "He's been on my radar since 2018. At TCU I watched every single one of his returns."

He has got to be able to play on coverage teams. Cowboys have not had a 3 tool player (KR/PR/WR) since Dwayne Harris. Cowboys let Harris go to keep Measly Beasley.

Turpin is really going to add some excitement and punch to the return game. I hope Fassel is working on those holding and illegal blocks in the back penalties. Nothing worse than a big return being called back.

I think we should also have a package for him as a wide receiver.

Didn’t know much ab Turbin, but I’m cautiously excited to see what he can do, not just as a returner.. but also as a WR

He was never really a top target at TCU, so it's hard to know what kind of impact he can have as a receiver. His biggest contribution was always as a return man. He had some pretty exciting stats in that role though

Mostly agree with you. However, a good punt returner MAY win you a game or two in a season you otherwise would not. With that said, it remains to be seen what Turpin can do in the NFL as a returner, so we'll see....

Down where I live in SW Louisiana, there is a word "laginappe", meaning something extra that you get with something else, like a free appetizer when you buy a steak dinner, e.g.

The return game is "laginappe", a return for a td or a return that goes for big yardage is nice, but if you don't get it, you still get the main thing...

Of for sure. But a game has around 65 plays, usually, one or two returns are such a small percentage. And you are not going to have a 50% "great" return rate. It's just a matter of numbers.

If you don't get the big return, just playing a very good game overall gives you a much bigger chance at a win....

Imo, CD, Gallup, Tolbert and Turpin are 100% locks.

I believe Brown, and Houston will make the team.

Simi will be placed on the practice squad.

The real battle is going to be Vasher vs Washington. Idk what type of camp Washington was happening before the injury but the final spot once Washington is healthy will come down to these two barring any other injuries.

I'd say your first 5 are accurate if Gallup doesn't start out on the PUP List. If he does it opens up one more spot - not necessarily, but probably for one. Brown's STs play (and to a lesser extent his having at least some experience and his blocking) puts him on the roster unless some of these other guys really show they can play STs just as well as him. Turpin makes the team too if he is the #1 PR which it kind of looks like he will be and I think you can use him on some specialty plays on Offense too. I could see him averaging a catch a week and maybe a dozen runs for the year as well. I just think people don't give enough weight to STs when filling out the bottom of the roster.

The #6 spot is a complete brawl right now. IMO it will go to whomever is the most reliable on STs unless one of those guys you mention puts themselves in the top 2 WR slots while Gallup is out but I don't see them jumping ahead of Tolbert. It's possible they could make the roster if they jump to the #3 WR spot behind Tolbert, but if Gallup is only out a couple of weeks I think the team will be fine with Brown in that spot. Again, I think STs will decide the #6 spot and because of this I think it's Fehoko with two of the others on the PS. Preseason games should give us a better clue
