Two players were on our radar

I'm sure Gregory was off our board so it has to be Brown.

Doubt that. According to the post draft interview, JJ stated that the one position that they hadn't covered themselves with was secondary. So, it was imperative that they come out of the 1st Rd with secondary help.

I was talking about cornerbacks not safeties. If he's coming here as a safety, I like the pick more. Much more, actually.

I think that's going to be the case. We've been searching for an "Ed Reed" forever, someone who's fast enough to cover deep and who can track the ball in the air.

He may play some corner, but I expect him to eventually be moved to free safety. If you can't find them naturally, you have to create them.

I am guessing Randall as well, its a good thing the Eagles passed on Jones.

they want to get Jones on the field immediately. Based on Jerry's comments last night, it's 50/50 whether that happens at CB or FS.

Usually when a player offers that versatility he'll start off at CB.

Not sure if there was inside info but this is what Fish was saying starting about midway though 1st round until this point,...

#Cowboys sources tell me they made a thumbs-up decision on DE Randy Gregory as a top-10 talent ... 2 weeks ago. @1053thefan

#Cowboys 3 spots to wait. 2 players to love: Byron Jones and Randy Gregory. @1053thefan

I don't think so. I think the Cowboys really won't consider a 1 tech in the first round. No matter what anyone thinks about it.

I'm going to guess it was Eric Kendricks.

I don't think Brown is a 1 tech. I think he could fit either 1 or 3tech.

I believe where he starts off depends on Mo Claiborne. Jerry seemed concerned that Mo may not be ready to make it back. I think if Mo isn't back then he is playing the 3cb role. If somehow they feel good enough with Claiborne in the slot then Jones will get time at FS.

Just now on the Ticket, Moore was talking about this.
Said their was discussion about Kendricks and McKinney, but the overall consensus choice was Jones.

If this is true, I'm seriously disappointed. It's about the worst way possible to handle the draft.

Think he's our opening week starter at FS? Not as much of a learning curve and won't let teams take our top off with a rangy athletic guy back there.

Sounds like two candidates for a trade up tonight.

Exactly right. You can't out cover people in this league. You have to create disruption up front to shut down these offenses. The Jones pick does nothing to change that dynamic.

Unless you're talking about adding extra seconds to our pass rush because of tight coverage. Then I'm listening.

As much as I've belly-ached about fixing the OL and DL over the years, and as much as I would have liked that first pick to be a D-Lineman, I think Marinelli coveted a big FS/CB for his defensive packages and I think the team believes there are opportunities to pick up similarly talented D-Linemen in other rounds,,, otherwise Marinelli would have told them to snatch up Brown or Goldman, etc.

These local guys are absolutely clueless...all of them...

Gregory probably isn't even on our board

Jones adds 4-5 seconds for our pass rush

Read "coverage sacks"
:D:popcorn:

“We had (Gregory) rated high on our board. But we also, from the get-go, have pinpointed if we could not reach for a player, but if we could find a player with having brought in Hardy. But if we could find a player that could potentially be a corner that, if we get (Morris) Claiborne back like we are anticipating and hopeful that could also be a free safety, and an excellent free safety, then that was the ideal fit as far as the position to draft for us. There was no question, and so we were never tempted to do anything moving around to do anything about any other player up there. Especially the player your talking about there. And then when we were able to get the player that we really wanted at the position that we wanted then that made that a non-consideration to get her done. In other words, we waited on a chance to see if we were going to be able to get this corner/safety.”

Sometimes one needs a translator for Jerry, I think he must process English from another language(Elfish).

Well said indeed sir.

Wait - was that the free info, or the real scoop for $9.95?
