So a player can catch a sideline pass, tap two toes in bounds, and fall out of bounds or be pushed out. And that toe tapping is considered a football move. But a catch, 2 feet down, ball breaks the plane for a TD, but not be a football move.
How is that different, ball breaking the goal line plane, or going out of bounds.
Regardless of holding onto the ball or not.

That was an easy td. Then on the Sunday night game the same thing happened and they called it a td.

My 0-3 fantasy team protests that call as well.

Lost by 3

Yup...same boat. That call gave him a big fat 0 for the day...and he was a waiver pick up that had torched the league the following 2 weeks.:mad:

League doing everything it can to keep games close....they think it brings excitement. Little do they realize it's about to lose diehard fans because they can see what the league is doing. It's cheating...Just in another form to get the desired outcomes the league wants.

Per the rule, I can see why they called this incomplete. They deemed him to be going to the ground in the process of making the catch. In which case he has to maintain control through the process of contacting the ground.

The problem with the rule is the judgement piece of determining him going to the ground. An argument can be made, and should be made, that in this case he wasn't really going to the ground until contact was made. You can argue that he was forced to the ground because of the contact. This is different than the Dez call where, in my opinion, Dez would have went to the ground regardless of the contact being made.

As long as they are consistent with it. Receivers need to understand this rule. They need to secure the ball. I understand they are trying to make a play, score a touchdown, whatever. But is reaching out with the ball and risking this type of call worth it? No. Catch it, secure it and move on to the next play.

They're both clearly catches, and that one is a touchdown.

This rule has gotta go.

I thought once the ball broke the plane, its a TD regardless of what else happens.

That should be a TD, what a horrible call.

Yep. The rules are just so confusing. The same thing happened in a game yesterday (I can't remember which*). The player lost the ball after he crossed the goal line, but it was ruled a touchdown.

*Edit - it was the Lions-Broncos game when the Lions back broke the plain then fumbled the ball. But it was ruled a touchdown. I guess crossing the goal line when you're running the ball is different than when you cross the plain after you catch the ball.

Whats the difference between this and a RB jumping over the line, the ball cross, him losing the ball, and it's still a TD?

I guess because the RB always had control?

I'd actually say he was not going to the ground as part of the catch and he turned to face the goaline and thus should have been ruled a runner. But if they did, the meltdown here would have shut the internet down.

I'm starting to think maybe if enough of these calls occur then the league will have no choice but to change the rule. And that's what the leagues wants....Instead of being proactive and taking responsibility they want to make such a mess of the situation...then make the rule change as if they are saving the day..giving the league more credibility. Which couldn't be further from the truth. If the league had any balls...they would have made the change after last years Dez debacle.

No, what happened was this rule fixed certain kinds of situations, but then just created bigger problems elsewhere. Too often, they don't think through these rulings fully before implementing them.

The Bert Emanuel rule is another good example. That was just stupid, and they finally undid it.
