Thats good stuffSmart left tackles are valuable. I hear he's been actually teaching Jason Peters aspects of the Cowboys blocking schemes.

Agreed with you on Tyler Smith.Picking on Bob Sturm here, but the list is endless.
The nerdy statistical and analytical arguments they bring - and with such intensity and condescension - would be insulting if it wasn't so tragically and comically pathetic. Doesn't matter how many times they're wrong, the next go-round, they're equally as certain and arrogant about their opinions they gift to us as charity from heaven itself.
Sturm rambled to no end about what a ridiculously stupid pick Tyler Smith was. Just drafted way too high, and a horribly flawed prospect in the early rounds to be even considered anywhere near a first-round pick. So many of his know-it-all ilk pounded the pulpits with the same drivel before a single ball was snapped.
Fast forward about 30 days, and now Tyler Smith looks like the best pick in the 2022 draft. Dude has played at an elite level from his first snap as a rookie against good pass rushers. Absolutely dominating people at times, and surprising Jason Peters with his knowledge, even correcting him at times.
Terrance Steele was going to be a disaster in August. Remember? Losing Gregory was really going to hurt, as was Cooper and Wilson.
Rewind to the 2021 draft when, according to Sturm's calculations, Micah Parsons was an unfortunate second prize, he told us, for a Cowboys team needing a OT or CB much worse. That doozy looks like "Dewey Defeats Truman" times a million now, eh?
This is the same Sturm who lambasts the Dak doubters as backwoods football imbeciles, as he giggly recites his bible of statistics ad nauseum. Meanwhile, again and again when the games really matter, Dak breaks windows and sets off fire alarms as he clangs passes off everything but receivers hands downfield. Yeah, he's not quite as vocal about Dak these days if you haven't noticed.
Again, he's far from alone, and I'm picking on Sturm because of his locale.
The mighty football expert world is dripping with these contrarians with slide rules, trying to reduce the most complicated team sport on the planet into pocket-protector analytics, as if fantasy football really is football. It is to them.
Go back and watch draft shows from 5 years ago and bring some popcorn and a mood to laugh. It's high comedy, especially with the vitriol and absolute certainty brought into these conversations over guys that prove to be everything but what was said, better and worse.
Mike Mayock actually parlayed his "expertivity" into a gig with Mark Davis' Raiders, and lo and behold, he's proving what a know-nothing talent evaluator he was all along. Almost all of their top picks since he's been there are either gone or are on their way out the door.
Of course, I'm just having some fun here, and I don't know who's going to hit or not either. It's time everyone stopped quoting and paying attention to these "O-fers", and just let time and observation be the judge.
Will McClay has the track record none of these professional guessers do. Trust those very few elite talent evaluators like him, even if Bob Sturm tells you otherwise.
And if you don't believe me, just ask Travis Frederick.

I realize this is a bit of a deviation from the thrust of your tread which is to bash the talking heads who trashed this pick and I think that’s fair game. But what I find even more absurd is the posters on this site who said “the Cowboys did NOTHING to prepare for Tyron Smith’s inevitable injury”, as if a first round pick was not enough. Fast forward and four games into the season it is looking more and more like the Cowboys have possibly drafted another very good first round OL and a possible replacement for Tyron Smith.Picking on Bob Sturm here, but the list is endless.

#5 I believe.Look how bad the Giants first round OT got smoked against Dallas. He was what? a top 10 pick? Tyler Smith was a steal.
PFF is a garbage man's garbage. It means nothing. The best pick in the draft? He's PFF's 45th ranked OT. His is playing well...........for a rookie. The draft is not a science. This is not news. But he was a first round pick and most experts had him going in round 1 or 2.
At this point, Tyron would get you about a 6th or 7th, if that. His injury sheet is a novel.I realize this is a bit of a deviation from the thrust of your tread which is to bash the talking heads who trashed this pick and I think that’s fair game. Wouldn’t it be fabulous if the Cowboys could flip Tyron for a first or second round pick to a team needing OL help in a bad way? That would clear some cap space, recoup most of the price paid for our rookie, and enable us to use the pick we receive for Tyron to further build the team.
The Cowboys are doing a lot of things right. I think Will McClay and MM have a lot to do with that.

We have gotten fortunate the several years that “our guy” disappears a pick or three before we are up and we have to just that the BPA on our board. We got Fredbeard, Martin, and Parsons that way.
This is why I get irritated when posters say stuff like “I’ll take the opinion on so and so from a paid professional over yours” or something to that effect. I’m seriously convinced,as I’ve been tracking the boys draft and online message board since early 2000s, there are some posters around here who could draft better and more consistently than most of the folks who get paid to do it. Zero doubt. Every year Kiper and Mayock end up looking like idiots as do a ton of FOs. Every year there are some posters here touting some hidden gems that turn out to be pro bowlers over Kiper or Mayocks picks.
https://cowboyszone.com/threads/tyler-smith-physically-similar-to-larry-allen.495888/We all were wrong. Even the person gloating that Sturm was wrong....I don't recall him saying Tyler would play this well.
Agree with the experts knowing nothing. About the people here you speak of. I say this with pure sincerity and am not trying to troll at the least. I would absolutely LOVE to meet the posters here you speak of that know what they are talking about when it comes to the draft. I'm not kidding. Check out this thread the second Smith was drafted... https://cowboyszone.com/threads/cowboys-draft-day-one.496162/page-89
If you are speaking of someone who understands drafting you must be talking about me, because I'm literally the only person in this entire thread who trusted Jerry and his staff over the pick and to be honest, I'm no draft expert but I'm also not emotional about the draft either. I realize the Cowboys are great at drafting and trust them in every draft.
I’m not sure what players you are referring to, but if one of them is Connor Williams that has zero to do with OT unless your plan was to play CW at OT, which the team refused to do.The Cowboys didn't do enough. They lost two starting caliber linemen and only drafted one.
It has to do with Tyler Smith because he was originally slated to play left guard this year. They didnt do enough to prepare for Tyron Smith getting injured if their plan was to slide Tyler Smith over without getting another starting caliber guard. Mcgovern and Farniok arent good enough.I’m not sure what players you are referring to, but if one of them is Connor Williams that has zero to do with OT unless your plan was to play CW at OT, which the team refused to do.
Our team has actually been one of the best drafting…but def more referring to across the board vs Mayock and Kiper and other teams. There are a lot of folks and maybe you are one of them that could beat most FOs consistently. Truth is the “experts” don’t know much more than you or I and they seem to be more likely to get bamboozled by the underwear Olympics vs game tape.
