Tyler vs OSU (both of them)

That's what his instincts are telling him to do.

Gonna take much work to break him out of that, no?

I'm concerned about when he has to think and play at the same time. Everyone is at least a tick faster at this level and he is gonna want to grab.
Whats crazy in pass pro hes so big and strong and has no power or punch. He just swings his arms wide and grabs

Smith is certainly a gifted athlete.

Based on what though? Nothing at the combine stands out. He didn’t bench. I keep seeing all these comments about his athleticism and strength but I haven't seen anything via measurables or against real competition backing this up.

It is really bad. There were several uncalled penalties in those videos.
Im like how the hell you in front of the guy and grabbing his numbers on the back of his jersey. I had to rewind a few times to believe what i was seeing. It made sense since he had 2 holding calls by halftime

One big positive is he only gave up 2 sacks, last two years. Very low number of pressures too
The right side of that OL was trash, if I was another team I would be putting my best pass rushers and run defenders against the right side of Tulsa's OL.

Tulsa had a bad OL coach, they probably would have been better off with no OL coach to be honest. I think the story was he was a young OL Coach and was "scared"

But they aren't.

Maybe not all of them but a lot of them were. And let's face it most NFL DE's are in the 250-280 range anyway .. But of course since he will start out a guard that's where he will need his strength. I guess we'll see soon enough..

That bad rep Sturm posted was against Wilson Huber. Dude is 243 lbs. I'm guessing part of his hand struggles are because he's facing quicker guys, but he just naturally goes wide with them at times.

But I'd like to see a clip of him driving someone backwards or straight stoning a guy. Watch the 3rd play against OK State. He's pulling and has a chance for a running hit on a LB. Only catches him with a shoulder, doesn't move him, and the guy makes the tackle.

Probably no Zach Martin but who is? That is asking too much. Hopefully he is better than Connor Williams. That is about all we can hope for at this point.

Everybody keeps talking about how strong he is. I'd like to see an example. He didn’t bench at the combine. I'm seeing him hug and toss, but that’s not strength and 9 times out of 10 it gets you a holding penalty.
He consistently seals his guy off in the running game and does a great job at getting to the second level. I'm not going to go back and watch the Ohio State game for the sake of getting time stamps but there are multiple occasions where he neutralizes his DL and moves up to take out a LB, effectively taking two guys out of the play. He struggled with speed rushes but he more than held his own in pass pro when he did engage his guy.

Looks like the stiffest competition our first round pick faced last season came from these two teams. So how did he do?

I admit I haven't watched all of either of these games but the little of each I have seen makes me glad they're not wanting him to play tackle.

These two games account for 5 of his holding penalties, 3 against Ohio St and 2 against OK. St.

With teaching they believe he will be Tyrons predecessor

I don't see a first round pick in those two games. Was he hurt against Ohio State? He was replaced by #79 a few times for a number of plays.

It looks like he let's guys get into his body and he struggles with quick moves. The Cowboys think they can coach these problems out of him. But in the first round I want someone more ready to play. T Smith looks like a 2nd or 3rd round pick to me. But I have only see him play 3 games.

What I do see is holding - a lot more than it is called. I do not see a LT. Maybe he can do better inside where he will not see as many speed moves to the outside.

Sealing someone off by getting outside or inside leverage isn't necessarily a sign of great strength. He gives up his chest too much and I saw him give ground in pass protection. When I hear someone has great strength, I want to see them pancaking guys or driving them off the line of scrimmage for several yards. I haven't seen that yet.
