Tyler Warren

I am not as impressed by him as some. Yes he is clearly the top TE in the draft but I do not see him as good as those calming he is another Gronk, etc
It's wild the comparisons I'm reading like he's really like that.

He’s a football player for sure.

Looks like a more athletic George Kittle to me.
yeah, I think so. That is what you get at this time of year; prospects being compared to future HOF players.
I simply do not see the ability to compare with Gronk or Kelce

Players I'd take over Warren:

Carter
Hunter
Graham
Tet
Jeanty
Golden

Other than that, I'd be 100% fine with taking Warren as I think he has more play making ability than Bowers.
I don't mind Golden, but Warren is going to be the better value, so I'd go with him over Golden.

Golden would see the field more.

Warren isn't going to make an impact blocking and would split reps with Ferg for at least this year.

Golden is just real explosive and would do wonders for our offense immediately.

I'd be happy with either.

The "WR in a TE's body" and "pass catching RB" types are very dependent on offensive scheme and/or QB preference. The sales pitch with those types of guys is that you're going to pepper them with targets like they're WRs. But for better or worse, teams most often keep using those "move" type RBs and TEs the same way they were using their RBs and TEs beforehand.

As an example on the downside, Dalton Kincaid was billed as a WR in a TE's body, but Josh Allen doesn't like targeting TEs - he likes hunting for big plays downfield and uses TEs for checkdowns. So Kincaid's received about the same type of usage that Dawson Knox was getting before him.

As an example on the upside, look at Alvin Kamara with the Saints. Sean Payton and Drew Brees would always hammer their running back with targets. If they had Reggie Bush or Sproles, they'd feed them 80 catches, if they only had Pierre Thomas, they'd still feed him 80 catches. So the Saints plugged in Kamara and fed him their 80-catch usual, and he just exploded.

So how does Dallas use TEs? Dak is always good for feeding them 60 or 70 catches, but those come on low-depth checkdown type stuff. And if you use Warren as a checkdown merchant, I don't know if he changes this offense. Warren doesn't look like a Brock Bowers type underneath target hoover - his big potential is as a Gronk or Kelce type downfield dominator. And we just don't throw to our TEs downfield, so I don't think we'd get the most out of him.

Selfishly, I really want to see Warren go to the Ravens. Lamar always feeds his TEs, and it's often on explosive downfield targets. If Warren ends up in a situation like that, I think he becomes a household name.

This is a good write up.

One tweak though. We do use our TEs a lot on seam routes up the middle of the field traditionally. But like you said, most of the volume of their targets are on short depth routes.

Hopefully that changes under the new regime because it’s gotten stale.

I’m a Penn State fan so in turn a big Tyler Warren fan…I think his most realistic comp is a healthy TJ Hockenson. Of course there’s potential for a better career, but just play style and a realistic outcome I’d say Hockenson fits the bill.

And as someone else pointed out above, so much of TE success (and probably about every other position) is scheme and fit.

Hockenson is a level I see him at. Nothing special.

He is as much as an offensive weapon as any WR in this draft I don't care that he's only a TE.
Gronk,Kelce,LaPorta and Kittle are only TEs.
Yeah pretty dumb to think they're the least important players on the field.

But hey...it was an Eagles puke.

Maybe you don't throw to your TEs down the field because you don't have any TEs who can get down the field.

Elite player with elite skill and a top 5 player in this years draft. Like Jeanty, these are the type of players you take if you want to improve your team. That people speak about Matt Golden in the same breath is laughable at best and why fans should stick to mock drafts. If you've uttered the phrase "too many holes on the team to take_____" you just don't really get what team building is all about. Fill your holes on day three, take elite talent when it's presented to you.

I guess it depends on your definition of “special.” Hockenson was for sure the 3rd/4th best TE in the NFL before hurting his knee 2 years ago
He has 1 year put of 6 better than Ferguson best year. If he's hockensen.....which I believe he pretty much is. No sir

Tyler Warren will fall to the late teens. Tightened isn't a premium position. Now if we trade back I might take him if the board is stacked according to best available.
