No question Jones is the best OWNER in sports, but his GMing sucks however his recent moves are really good so I think Stephen has gained more control over the team.

Maybe not twice that, but not too far off.

He could have signed a much shorter deal here or elsewhere and then renegotiated for a bigger contract then.

In tens years this will look like a steal.

Lol I don't think he meant literally twice that but he could have received more if he went to another team.

Heard a comment earlier this morning, either on the Fan or the Ticket, can't remember. As the question then came up about Dez.
Cowboys still have $10 million of cap room. And even though Jerry made have given out some dumb contracts, but they have NEVER let a player walk or get away that they really wanted to keep.
And very good players too. So a Dez deal could get done in an hour if they want too, but their is no reason too. Plenty of time.

He may have gotten slightly more, but that is a huge unknown. As of now, he is very close to the top paid tackle in the league, but he isn't the top tackle in the league. He could blow his knee out tomorrow and never play another down in the NFL and will still keep 40 million. If he chose to wait a few years, there is no guarantee he would get anything close to that.

Acting like he gave us a hometown discount, when he is among the highest paid tackles in the league is laughable.

In three years we will be paying the 10th largest LT salary to the best LT in the NFL. Look beyond today

It's not laughable at all. He would get 14-15m on the open market. Locking in 8 more years at 12+m is a big time steal. The 40m guarantee isn't even that high. It's a little over 3 years salary. A 10 yr deal could have easily been in the 150-160m range once you factor in inflation and the cap rising sharply the next few years.

Darn good point.
If he can maintain his play (shoot- he's still improving!) and avoid injury- everybody is going to be singing the praises of this contract.

Although I'm sure it's going to get adjusted and changed over the years to help the team with the cap like all the other big contracts they draw up.

Its not about today, its about in 4 years. What he makes in four years will most likely be less than the top LT at that point. His agent was saying that by committing to a long term deal, he prevents himself from being able to get another large payday while still in his early prime. So, yes over the course of these ten years if he is able to stay a top LT he could have made double his earnings. The hometown discount may not apply right now, but in 3-5 years, it will be a steal.

If Jerry would just pay for a bunch of stuff for me, and help me out, I'd gladly sign with his team for 250 thousand a year. That's real gratitude if you ask me. :)

I doubt that. He will likely still be making top 5 LT money in 3 years and there is no guarantee he will even be in the league at that point. It is a fair deal for both parties and he didn't give a hometown discount. Period.

No tackle in the league is making over 12m a year.
