some of you arent good with future value of present money, are you?
I'm sure Dallas will restructure the contract when they are needing to make cap room outside of that I expect he will be with us for quite a while.
McNabb can debate that Trent Williams and/or Jason Peters are better left tackles than Smith. However, he would be an idiot to say the margin of difference between either player and Smith is wide at all. Smith has youth on his side. After his career is over, he may prove to be the best of the three well-beyond a reasonable doubt.

This IMO is what makes Jerry Jones the best owner in sports
I love how he talks about his agent talking to about the risk of this long deal and he basically told them this is the deal i want get it done.
If this were so then why would the best owner in sports continue to keep on perhaps one opf the bottom five GM's in this league?
Why would they cut him when they would be just starting to enjoy the benefits of the deal and he was just reaching his prime? The deal isn't 'fake' back-loaded. I could see him playing out the entire contract. If anything Dallas may have to re-do the deal in his favor in 5 years.
I don't see him as the type of guy that will even worry about it that much. Clearly he knows his value. His agents advised him not to sign the deal and he did it anyway.
This is the mark of a man who is managing his money very well and wants to stay in a good organization with job security for a long time. Not to mention his soon-to-be wife loves the DFW area and has a lot of her own business and marketing stuff cooking there.
Oh good lord. He's 23 years old, the same age as our first-round draft pick this year. He's just getting started.
Great offensive linemen last 12-15 years in the league all the time, and that's after they're 23.
Where did you see that his agents advised him not to sign the deal? Just curious.I don't see him as the type of guy that will even worry about it that much. Clearly he knows his value. His agents advised him not to sign the deal and he did it anyway.
Yes, but has the chances of this contract staying in its existing form for a decade are slim to none. It will be restructured, probably multiple times, by the time it is over. I am not saying he won't be a Cowboy in 4 years, I am saying this contract, as it exists, will not be around.
Where did you see that his agents advised him not to sign the deal? Just curious.
Perhaps, but I hardly see that as a problem. And that restructure won't be that soon. Probably about 6-7 years from now, and if he's the top tackle in football as expected, Jerry will gladly make it right.
It's nice to see them taking care of future cap considerations these days for a change. They're two years from being in really good shape. (The have $10 million free right now.)
Agreed.

On second thought, Jesus F. Christ, man did you read the OP?
Late last week, the Cowboys approached me with a deal I told my agents I wanted to sign. My agents explained the pros and cons of this deal versus one that may be shorter term and/or higher guarantee. After careful consideration, I decided this long term deal was exactly what I wanted. Over the past three years, the Cowboys organization and Jones Family have helped me through trying times and I felt this was my opportunity to return the gratitude. I am beyond grateful for the Cowboys staff, my teammates, and the fans, and wanted to ensure I was locked in as a "Cowboy for Life". I want to thank everyone for their support and look forward to having a star on my helmet for the remainder of my career. -Tyron Smith
