How is this guy a top 10 pick? He gets his QB killed, holding penalties, stuffed back in the hole, and doesn't get much push in the run game. Also consider that this is against the UVA Cavaliers and some no-name DE.

look what he does to Cameron Jordan in this video :)

Was this 09 or 10? If 09 I don't care...he was a sophomore.

Jordan's the other guy who I think is horribly overrated haha, but he managed to get a sack against Tyron in that vid. I don't see anything special with this guy, I'd take Sherrod or Carimi over him no doubt about it.

watch the hands, watch the reach, in other words, Has high upside potential with Huge Hands to punch, good size, and speed to pull. Only 20 years old too, hasnt reached his full growth or strength yet either.

All I see is an undersized positional blocker that lacks a mean streak, I hear "potential" with him all the time but truth is there are tons of guys in every draft that have potential. You don't spend top 10 picks on potential, at least smart teams don't.

:hammer:

I don't see a guy worth the #9 pick, that's for sure. He gets pushed around and doesn't get any push

I agree.

"Potential" means you haven't done jack ****.

Blocking is about attitude and tenacity. Moose said that's what's so great about Erik Williams. He's just a mean dude that have the attitude of beating the crap out of you even though he plays offense. Just ask Reggie White.

Part of that is very true, the potential. But if you know what your watching and seeing its there. The hands, has huge hands, the nastiness when he wants too, and ability to slide while reaching 2nd level. Kinda like what doug free does too reaching 2nd level, thats what Jason Garrett wants, athletic linemen, moreso than big maulers.

Then, remember now, this kid is only 20. Just think in 2 years, the growth and strength, will only get bigger and stronger when reaches about 24 or so, he already is at 307, and tall too.

Only issue i have, basically only played 2 years, and then this year had knee injury, which is kept him from running at combine, but if he blows it up at his proday on April 1st, at 307, say run a 4.9 or so. He will move up draft boards, if knee is solid and ok too.

I am alittle wary of USC OT's with jacob rogers, and way eagles winston justice has played. Giants DE ate him up his rookie year in one game. And Justice was light weight too.

Best to my memory, one more OT has played well for Falcons who drafted him, but since that time, Munoz was only best OT to come out of USC to my memory, and that was years ago.

Yet, on potential, this kid reminds me of a very young Rayfield Wright who we drafted as a TE, who Coach Landry put at OT. Wright grew into the OT position and was dominant. This kid looking at him on film reminds me of Rayfield alittle.

Again, just my view points.

Agreed. I understand wanting athletes at CB, WR but the OL is a different game. I'm looking for is a guy that is 1) mean 2) smart 3) a football player.
The NFL has a growing fascination with athletic freaks of nature, but time and time again, the guys who succeed are the maulers, the smart guys, and the overachievers. That's what this game is all about.

All this talk about a guy who wasn't the best in college, projecting him to a position we already have filled--it's as though we're outsmarting ourselves. We don't need a blockbuster right tackle. We need a football player. I know we like our shiny toys on the Cowboys, but why can't it just be so simple as getting the big, ugly, mean guys? That's exactly what this team lacks!

There's no need to get cute with that pick, at #9 there will be some great football players available.

Now, this is the part I totally agree with, trade back to 12th to 15th slot, but not below 17th, get an extra pick thrown in or 2 extra picks thrown in, still get Tryon Smith if there at 12th or so, or J J Watt or Cameron Jordan,

there is no one great player in this draft that totally stands out to me, say like a tony dorsett or randy white or ed jones, but still good players with loads of potential to be great.
Fairley, Peterson, Dareus, T Smith, Cam Newton, etc, all are good players desitned for greatness, but each one has something wrong with them, no dominant standout player to me in the group. dont misunderstand me, all of these players im mentioning I think will be great players, but each one has some kind of flaw
Newton not enough playing experience
Peterson, maybe a true safety like Ronnie Lott, but not a CB
T Smith, relatively young, only 20 but great potential & has had knee injury
Fairly, can be dominant, but doesnt show it all the time
for example

but no true blue bell cow to me, thats why no one in draft ,says this player or that player is number one pick overall

Another example would be the Luck kid from Stanford, if he had come out, most likely would have been number one overall all, if you get what i mean

Thats why i dont have a problem with possibly trading down, but if a good player like a peterson, fairley, dareus is there, take him,

This is the Finisher's approach to "scouting" out an offensive lineman. Unless a lineman can do this (see below) and have clip of it available on YouTube, then he's garbage.

How old are you, 12?

The word, "potential", is overused and carries too much emphasis with it. Hell, I have the potential to do anything I set my mind too, but sometimes I might come up short. If T.Smith has not broken the "potential" label in college, what makes you think he can reach pro-bowl caliber play in the NFL. Give me someone who has proven himself in college and T. Smith is not the guy for the 9th pick. I would rather have Carimi then him at 9, but obviously I would rather trade back to 17-20 to pick up Carimi and a 2nd. I would take a dirty, nasty, intelligent, blue-collar OT, instead of a naturally gifted freak of nature prototype any day.

Yeah I saw this earlier today and didn't want to post it cause people would think I was on a witch hunt. That's two reels now of him looking horrid.

Ditto this :signmast:!

Carimi is the guy I want...

You could find that on just about every prospect entering the draft.

This is what makes the draft interesting. We just have to believe in the scouts and hope we hit on our selection(s).
