Math is hard but that contract can be quite a bit more than Brandin Cooks money.
If it's not, then that means he missed a lot of time. Sturm is not too bright sometimes.

do you have to have cap room to account for the player meeting all incentives in the contract?

He accomplished a lot with the Dallas Cowboys. Pro Bowls, All Pro awards, lots of prestige of being one of greatest Cowboys ever, and he earned a lot of money. Sadly for him and several other great and very good ones during the Jerry Jones management era of the last nearly 3 decades he did not have the benefit of enjoying playoff success. That success seems to be so very important to the guys as they look back on their careers.

There are two types of incentives: likely to reach and unlikely to reach.

If it is a likely to reach, you need to save cap space this year to cover it. If it is unlikely to reach and he reaches it, it comes out of next year’s cap space.

What determines likeliness to reach is previous season’s results. Tyron played 13 games. So if he has big incentives for 10 games, 12 games, 14 games, and 17 games… you have to save room for 10 and 12 game incentives this year because they’re likely to be earned due to his performance last year. If he doesn’t get those then it is freed up cap space that Carries over to next year. But for the 14 and 17 game incentives, those are unlikely to be earned because he didn’t play that many games last year, so if he reaches them it’ll come out of next year’s cap.

Class act. Take note Micah, learn a thing or two.
why? fans still ran him out of town no matter how classy he was...the past 3 years have been flooded with Tyron is a waste of cap space, overrated and cannot play LT anymore... LOL

you guys need to stop this...fans ruin players...don't blame them for milking the team for every penny just like you would when you go to work

I never cried about his cap hit when he was here. I liked it, WHEN HEALTHY. The frustration came when he misses multiple chunks of seasons the last several years. Can't dispute the facts. But when he was on the field, he was a stud. All these things can be true at the same time btw. He had a nice run, but like all players, father time gets em.

If we liked our guys as much as we say we do, tyron would still be here.
Change happens in this league and in life. Just stop it. It's just business. We did right by the player. He was Loyal to Jerry, and we did him a solid by releasing him so he could test the market. He did that and good on him. If Tyron wanted to be here he would be. He wanted this. It was truly mutual.

I understand the contract was doable but it was time to move on. The problem over the years was finding a suitable backup if/when Tyron goes down. How many losses over the years can be linked to this problem. Dallas doesn’t have the salary cap resources to invest in injury prone players when the depth is going to be playing for the league minimum.

It's a business and now he's going to be protecting Rogers precious azz...whatever.
So what kind of compensatory pick are we getting for him?

So if he has the same production as last year he gets paid $12.25 million. He played in 71.5% of the snaps in 2023 which is the equivalent of playing in 12 games and missing 5 games.
Kind of surprising that isn't a "likely to be earned" incentive that counts against the Jets current cap.
