Tyron Smith vs the run

tyron smith is the best OT in this draft, hands down.
Carimi looks like a btter run blocker and looks like he plays physical because of the style of running game that they play in wisconsin. He will get found out in the nfl against speed rushers. T.Smith will not get bullied by stronger de's(he's stronger than Carimi now, with longer arms, a better initial punch and is 3 years younger) and wont get beat off the edge.

I like Carimi and if we trade down to the mid to late teens and take him i'm ok with that, but do not for a minute think that you're getting a pro bowl player. He's probably as close to his ceiling already as any player in this draft imo.

I dunno, Matt Barkley is pretty turrible. :laugh2:

but he has to be better than whoever the QB was for MSU....also, the WRs, TEs, and RBs at USC are 5 and 4 star recruits. MSU gets nowhere near that kind of talent at the offensive skill positions.

Highlights. Oh and on the 2nd play he is the guy who comes clear across the field and springs the WR downfield.

He reminds me of Free on that play getting downfield to block. I would love to have two starting OT's with that ability.

So this thread is about comparing Smith's run blocking to Sherrod's pass blocking?

Seems reasonable.

Look at the video and see Smith in the run game.

Now look at Sherrod who looks alot better in the run game.

tell me what ya think.

I think it's funny that you are talking about run blocking and you post a clip of Sherrod that is about 70% pass blocking. Only one block by Sherrod really stood out. Not seeing a ton of difference between the two....except most everyone thinks that Smith has a much higher ceiling.

I wouldn't mind Sherrod in a trade down.

man give it up. We know you hate Smith, we get it. And run blocking is not as important as pass blocking any more anyway. In time Smith will be loads better then Sherrod anyway.

I never said anything bad, did you see something bad. I just posted two video's and asked what your opinion was. Don't get so defensive.

I don't hate Smith, I'm just not in love with him like some others are. I see his weaknesses and I have questions about them. I think if we trade back to 13 and get him then its pretty good value.

My only problem with Smith is the people on here that don't see any weak points with him. I don't see a ton better player than Carimi, Castanzo, or Sherrod.

Ok thats all I ask, just want peoples opinions, if you didn't see enough go check out some more film and see what you think.

I like Sherrod... but Smith is on a different level than Sherrod. Smith has the ability to be all world and he's plenty good to start right away, even before he matures and learns.

Just look at Smith move and then imagine in what universe would he not be an improvement over a hobbled Marc Colombo. He would come right out of the gate and be a giant leap forward in pass protection. No longer would the right edge be something that makes me hold my breath every time Romo drops back to pass.

I'll be thrilled with Smith. I would be significantly less happy with Sherrod and I'd have to get a lot in trade to take him instead of Smith.

There's a huge difference in the type of clips you just posted for each player.

Smith's is a collection of snaps (either good or bad) taken from one game.

Sherrod's is an actual compilation of highlights (you know, good plays...) taken from a bunch of different games.

It's no wonder why one would appear glaringly better than the other.

I think that's the problem for folks who really haven't seen Smith play in an actual game, snap-for-snap. They turn to YouTube to get familiar with the player and see a few videos which aren't traditional highlight clips and walk away feeling ho-hum about the player.
Spot on.

It would be pretty sad for Sherrod if his highlight film wasn't better than Smith's one game film.

What is the diffence between Tyron Smith and say a Bruce Campbell who was taken in the 4th last year.

The last few Drafts have had great prospects along the OLine, this year there is an obvious fall off.

Where would Tyron have been Drafted in 2009 and 2010?

Bruce Campbell was known to have questionable work ethic. You can't say that about Tyron Smith.

Tyron Smith would probably be a top 5 pick if he came out next year.

Wes Bunting said that Tyron would have been the 2nd tackle selected last year. So somewhere in the top 10.

Thats a load of , Russell Okung and Trent Williams are both better players. Now he might have went before Anthony Davis or took Davis spot at 11.

If Smith would have went 6 last year to Seattle it would have been only because of who the coach is.

Now with Davis going 11 who played RT last year and is projected to become a LT and thats how he was drafted then it's the same as Smith. I guess if SF could draft Davis a RT at 11 we could draft Smith a RT at 9. But I would much rather drop back a few spots, pick up an extra 3rd and still get Smith.

Work ethic and game film.

Huge differences.

Campbell was pure athlete that still entirely rough around the edges as an OT.

I don't believe he even made a single All-Conference at Maryland.

Randal Williams has the same frame as Julio Jones. What is the difference?

Geez, Jake Long had abs too its not a death sentence
