If we're looking to replace any running back on our roster, it should be Tyson Thompson ... not either of our primary ball carriers.

If Dallas sees a running back it values on the second day of the draft, take that player and let him contend with Thompson for the third RB spot.

If the rookie shows great potential, he would be taking over only for a player who's greatest value is as a kick returner (and we have Austin to handle that role if Thompson is beaten out) and give Dallas a possible answer for when Julius Jones hits free agency next year.

If, and this is a very big if, the rookie proves to be extraordinary in camp, then and only then should we consider trading Julius Jones. (Jones' value might even go up if a team loses its starter in camp or a player a team is depending on doesn't step up.)

I don't understand the mind-set of trading Jones BEFORE we have someone to replace him and this would be the only way I could see a potential trade being an option.

Even if we pick up a RB on day 1 it will be Thompson competing for his life in TC not the other 2.

RB on day 1 is a good thing if its value.

Won't argue against that if the value is there. There are other positions I'd rather address if the value is equal, though.

What? How could we possibly replace a 3rd string RB who is a decent KR? Why, you might have to draft as high as round 7 to get someone like that!

This makes more sense if you're going to replace a running back it should be Thompson, you can find someone like the guy from the Univ. of Arizona.

I'm sorry, I fail to see how this would be controversial. :D

If it comes to be that a RB supplants him on the roster, we need to stash this diamond in the rough. Runners like Tyson don't come around many times.

It would be sad to see the Irving, Texas native get released, but since Austin is our kick returner, it could happen.:(

Whoops, my bad.

Maybe I should change it to "Tyson Thompson Should Replace Julius Jones Since Anyone Can."

Austin's return abilities make Thompson expendable.

u mean his 3 fumbles? before his 1 good return? i dont think dallas has a dependable kr/pr just yet.

You're totally right - runners with absolutely no vision or ability to break tackles are once in a lifetime guys.

Thompson was only as good a returner as his speed allowed him to be. I don't think anybody ever told him what a hole was, and his speed just meant he went down harder (c'mon, I could see an injury with that guy from a mile away). If Austin is slower than Tyson, it ain't by much, and while he may have an aversion to the sideline, at least he uses it to get somewhere.

The fact that Miles Austin can return kicks makes Thompson absolutely useless to this team. Unless cutting up third team defenses in August counts, in which case he is clearly the next Emmitt Smith.

But the way the draft is looking where we are picking esp in round one or two there are a few RBs that would be unbelievbale value where we are picking.

Lynch in the first would be unbelievable value and Branch/Irons in the second.

His ability to actually make people miss makes him better than Thompson's run straight ahead in to the nearest pile ability.

It's a good story, but if we want to create more competition at running back, then that's where we do it.

I like Thompson as a kick returner and I like seeing him flash his speed running outside, but I don't see him being a realistic option at running back.

Still, if we brought in a late-round pick and Thompson beat him out for the third spot ... no big deal. I certainly don't mind having Thompson on the roster and am not actively seeking for Dallas to replace him. In fact, I could live with Dallas keeping the position status quo and then hitting the draft next year for Jones' replacement if he proves unworthy of re-signing for the dollars he'll demand.

This is a running backs only flow. :D

I believe your task would be to build a case against Marion Barber. (I took the easy one.)
