there is no reason to replace him. This is stupid. It's just some JJ apologists who are venting and pissed about the JJ could easily be replaced thread.

His ability to actually make people miss makes him better than Thompson's run straight ahead in to the nearest pile ability.

lol i agree with that 100%, but if dallas has a chance to get somethig better in the draft, my money is on miles being released, rather then thompson

Why's that? Austin's usefulness as a receiver is about equal to Thompson's as a running back.

Runners like Tyson don't come around many times.
They come around every draft. Tyson isn't special at all. He won't ever be a starter. He is a guy who can run fast in a straight line. That's it.

I love how you are such an expert on football players. You should really be a scout for the Cowboys.

If we can't get a premium back to upgrade over Julius, which I really don't think would be that hard, I would love to get Lorenzo Booker in the third round. Make him the 3rd down back change-up as someone who could be a Brian Westbrook type in the passing game. No longer having to take 100% of nickel snaps, MB3 would be freed up to take the bulk of carries in base, and let Julius give MB3 a breather now and then.

You're not the first to suggest that. And I'm not talking about the kids down the street either. In regards to Tyson, anyone breathing air could see he has no wiggle in his run. A RB in the 4th could replace him.

I believe taking a ridiculous thread and turning that idea into a logical one is a good thing. But that's just me.

He's a guy who had next to no real experiance. He played two year of JC, where he was miles ahead of the competition, and only one abbreviated year in a major program. Not saying he is going to be great, or even good, but he's not had nearly the experiance of our other RBs.

His first year, yeah, he couldn't cut cake. Fast and straight and that was it. Last year, he actually made some moves. Never more than one per run, but it was progress of a sort. And remember from Julius's example, 'fooling around' on your carries was not the Parcells' way.

So I think the jury is out on this guy. This year will probably tell the tale. Now, if there is good value at RB at their draft pick, the Cowboys should certainly consider biting on it. But that's true at pretty much every position.

I wouldn't be against that. I'd still rather us pick up someone in that mold with potential later in the draft if possible, like maybe Minnesota's Gary Russell or maybe Northern Illinois' Garrett Wolfe, and use our first-day picks on other positions. But I'm not opposed to drafting a runner on the first day if that's clearly our best option.

Yes, but he's a guy who represents tremendous value -- he filled a spot for 2 year and can fill a spot next year without costing a pick. There are 100s of 2nd day picks who haven't played as much or contributed as much. So for me, he's a plus

The fact that Miles Austin can return kicks makes Thompson absolutely useless to this team. Unless cutting up third team defenses in August counts, in which case he is clearly the next Emmitt Smith.
Agreed. Who needs a third running back anyway? If Jones or Barber gets hurt, when can just plug in Newman as our change of pace back.

And you honestly think Joe Blow Free Agent RB couldn't do Thompson's job? Grab any RB off the wire right now and he'll be just as useful as our third running back.

You're totally right - runners with absolutely no vision or ability to break tackles are once in a lifetime guys.

Thompson was only as good a returner as his speed allowed him to be. I don't think anybody ever told him what a hole was, and his speed just meant he went down harder (c'mon, I could see an injury with that guy from a mile away). If Austin is slower than Tyson, it ain't by much, and while he may have an aversion to the sideline, at least he uses it to get somewhere.

Well, let me think about that.

No, Tyson, given more carries, is a good RB.

Though i could see stashing him for future reference.

Releasing Miles would be a blunder. I was a Miles skeptic and one key fumble soured me on him. But he won me and a lot of fans in the second part of the season.

You're joking about releasing Miles, right?
