U.S. Army makes gun that fires lightning

How many years of Aids or cancer research could have been funded for the price tag of this unneeded piece of weaponry.

This weapon can cure people with cancer and Aids the same way smoking cures cancer.

Probably zero...since one does not necessarily negate the other.

The Laser-Induced Plasma Channel (LIPC) cannon is currently being tested at Picatinny Arsenal, a key US Army research complex in New Jersey.
"We never got tired of the lightning bolts zapping our simulated targets," says George Fischer, who heads the research team.
The charge is created by emitting a laser pulse that charges the air, and forms a hugely destructive bolt of lighting.
"If a laser puts out a pulse with modest energy, but the time is incredibly tiny, the power can be huge," says Fischer. "During the duration of the laser pulse, it can be putting out more power than a large city needs, but the pulse only lasts for two-trillionths of a second."

Force lightning, awesome!

So funds wasted on a useless weapon, wouldn't help in the research?

Got it.

Probably. The pharmaceutical companies wouldn't release a cure if they found it because then all the cancer and aids patents would no longer be paying them for meds that they no longer need after being cured. ;)

Probably not.

More money seldom means faster cure or solution.

Asinine!

We got a bunch of John Waynes here. Big gun yeah let's go kill someone. The money couldnt possiblebly be used for something that benefits mankind. We need more weapons. Find that whole line of thinking nuts!

I find your line of thinking that ALL weapons money should be spent on "Cancer cures" completely ignorant.

Why not spend money on both, you know... like we already do?

Put the bong down, Hippy, and turn on the news. Weapons are needed just like cancer research is needed, therefore we fund both.

That makes no sense in the context of my brief history of responses pretty much ever, specifically in terms of this thread.

Many times you have come off, lets say "nuts".

To each his own. Funny you can make such a definitive statement when I have less then 200 posts and I am sure you haven't read them all.

What's asinine is the claim that weapons offer no benefit to mankind. That's clearly not true. Weapons are actually key to mankind's dominance on the planet.

Furthermore, if you were to increase spending for disease research by infinity dollars, you still would not cure all diseases. Death is a fact of life in this reality.
