UConn Hoops Player Opts for NFL

Thanks to Gates every decently sized hoops player is going to think he can make it in the NFL, great.
And other than Gates all the rest have flopped. No better than a FA tryout.

I may be wrong about this, but wasn't Tony Gonzalez a basketball player?

Yes he was.

Can you imagine how big a force Shaq would be in goal line situations as a TE? Good lord.

I would have loved to see Michael Jordan play receiver in the red zone. With his height, jumping ablitity and body control he could probably score quite often on lob passes once the team was inside the 20. Jordan also had good straight line speed.

I was thinking the same thing.

Take a flyer on him Day 2. What the heck?
I wouldn't even do that Hos. I'd make a free agent offer at best. And I for one like the idea trying to develop those undersized power forwards into pass catching TE's.

You need to focus primarily on guys who have more experience at football and excelled at it at one point or another.

Antonio Gates was a VERY VERY good HS football player who had offers from major programs coming out of HS. Basketball was just his sport of choice.

Nelson hasn't played since a frosh in HS? Thats a hell of a learning curve.

I think Bill already has done it, Reggie Love

I thought he was a linebacker project... and is he even still on the practice squad?
