Signed by Cowboys UDFA signings

This and last year's UDFA crop have come with notably lesser credentials to the degree that one relies on NFL.com and other similarly widely-accessible sources for player grades.

I considered last year just a one-off, but it's now seeming clear that there's been some decision from the top to target just one or two high-priority UDFAs and otherwise just hire some training camp bodies.

Outside of maybe RB3 and ILB there not any spots on this roster

I needed that laugh
How many UDFAs make a roster every year? 2-3?

They have

QB - Dak, Milton, Howell
RB - Williams, Blue, Davis, Mafah, Izzy
FB - Leupke
WR - Lamb, Pickens, Flournoy, Turpin, Mingo, Smith, Campbell, Holden
TE - Ferguson, Schoonmaker, Spann-Ford
LT - Guyton, Shelton
LG - Smith, Bass
C - Beebe, Hennessy
RG - Booker, Cornelius
RT - Steele, Thomas

Where would you fit an UDFA here outside of TE?

DL - Williams, Clark, Bullard, Ogbonnia, Wheat, Overton
Edge - Gary, Eze, Houston, Lawrence, Liafau
ILB - Overshown, Winters, Barham
CB - Bland, Durant, Revel, Carson, Butler, Kendricks, Bridges, Moore
S - Downs, Hooker, Thompson, Locke, Bell

ST - Aubrey, Anger, Turpin

Like I said. You may make the squad at RB3, TE3, DT or ILB. But not many spots are open for depth

They paid the TCU tight end 200k. That's a good place to start.

@Carson I'm not going to do a deep dive to substantiate my claim b/c it's not that important to me. But for anyone willing to take my word for it, I've been tracking UDFAs back to the time that there really wasn't a lot of sources to learn who-went-where that one could easily access. And until this year and last, it was very typical that DAL's list included probably 5-7 in any given April that had been considered likely by multiple outlets of some regard to be drafted, but then turned out, they weren't... and so, there was a decent legit debate what one or two from the pack would actually make the team, not even just the practice squad.

So, I'm sticking with my new conclusion that there's been a paradigm change. And now that I think about it, maybe the best explanation for that occurring is the loosening of the practice squad rules in recent years--in particular, that 6 of the 16 slots may now be occupied by veterans regardless of their tenure in the league. That naturally reduces the need to give rookie UDFA signings the emphasis once given.

If Trigg has a good camp, I see Schoonmaker being the odd man out.
Doubt it. Schoonmaker in last year of his contract, he wpuld bring a late round comp pick. Plus being a high draft pick. If anything they keep 4 TE’s. And one less DL or OL.

The TCU guy should make the team. They didn't give him 200k for nothing.

UDFAs mean more to your practice squad stash than the thought of finding a player to push for quality minutes. Dallas has been extremely fortunate to find multiple guys who contributed early, but in most cases it's not that way. They stand at 10 UDFAs and a minicamp invite, which might be a few more of those to come as well. I wouldn't expect more than 1 or 2 to see any true playing time during the regular season

Dang. I'm just now seeing that. Hard to explain why they'd do that. From everything I've seen, he wasn't even on most big boards' top 250. Must've seen something in him in private workouts. It's been true for awhile now that whichever UDFA they gave the biggest bonus ended up sticking, at minimum, on the PS.

Makes me that much more persuaded that they see Trigg as a WR as much if not more than they do a TE.

My early guess for how these guys do

Make the team
TE Michael Trigg, Baylor
DT Kevin Gilliam, Virginia Tech... got a 9.9 RAS score, 24th out of 2,278 DT's since 1987.

Make the Practice Squad
WR Jordan Hudson, SMU
WR Camden Brown, Georgia Southern
TE DJ Rogers, TCU... could be an IPP guy Jamaica.
G Sidney Fugar, Baylor... he played LT but will most likely be moved inside.
DT Tommy Dunn Jr., Kansas
LB Langston Patterson, Vanderbilt

Will disappear at cut down time
RB Dominic Richardson, Tulsa... I like Dom but the practice squad is pretty stacked already.
T Shiyazh Pete, Kentucky

Wonder why he went undrafted maybe because he is TERRIBLE as a blocker. Maybe that can be coached a little. Eli Shower was terrible as a blocker too.

That's about what I figured. He's a WR playing TE just for mismatches. They really love looking at undrafted Tight Ends. I'm still high on BSF. He's a helluva blocker and getting better catching the ball. And 6'7! Love the potential there in the red zone.
