Signed by Cowboys UDFA signings

Think the optimal thinking on Michael Trigg is that he can become a hybrid WR/TE as they'd hoped to deploy John Stephens had he not gotten hurt.
Exactly what I was thinking when he got announced. He has a future if he can connect the dots.

They wanted Miles Austin.
There were a lot of players that they wanted. They could have just stopped with Sam Hurd if they were keeping the UDFA group small. Austin was a prospect out of a small school who needed a lot of work.

Many undrafted free agents have been effective starters for some playoff teams.

The Seahawks had three starters that were undrafted.

Some become far more than starters. Historically, the Cowboys have discovered gold several times, as we all know.

The Cowboys have done well in this area and it would be great, especially if they find another rare nugget.

Dang. I'm just now seeing that. Hard to explain why they'd do that. From everything I've seen, he wasn't even on most big boards' top 250. Must've seen something in him in private workouts. It's been true for awhile now that whichever UDFA they gave the biggest bonus ended up sticking, at minimum, on the PS.

Makes me that much more persuaded that they see Trigg as a WR as much if not more than they do a TE.
Trigg is 6-4 240, he isn't a WR. The guaranteed money guarantees Rogers a practice squad spot, nothing more. We don't know what the others got yet.

Based on the draft & UDFA ( lack of RB’s) one would think Jaydon Blue gets first crack at the code to back up 8 million $ Williams and Mafah would be behind Blue if he fails .

@Carson I'm not going to do a deep dive to substantiate my claim b/c it's not that important to me. But for anyone willing to take my word for it, I've been tracking UDFAs back to the time that there really wasn't a lot of sources to learn who-went-where that one could easily access. And until this year and last, it was very typical that DAL's list included probably 5-7 in any given April that had been considered likely by multiple outlets of some regard to be drafted, but then turned out, they weren't... and so, there was a decent legit debate what one or two from the pack would actually make the team, not even just the practice squad.

So, I'm sticking with my new conclusion that there's been a paradigm change. And now that I think about it, maybe the best explanation for that occurring is the loosening of the practice squad rules in recent years--in particular, that 6 of the 16 slots may now be occupied by veterans regardless of their tenure in the league. That naturally reduces the need to give rookie UDFA signings the emphasis once given.
That's probably a good point about the veterans. Even though they've increased the number of practice squad players, you've got the vets to now consider as part of your preseason roster or even grab if needed to fill out your PS. It does change the paradigm.

I like giving as many college players a shot as we can because you never know where you are going to find a gem. But the team may value players more who already have been able to make a roster or practice squad. I mean, didn't we bring back Paris Campbell, who I kind of consider a waste of a spot at this point? But the team may value him because he at least has shown some ability to play in the league.

Kind of sad to me since we basically had to use a practice squad back (Malik Davis) because none of our backups could either stay healthy or show enough to deserve playing time.

That’s what surprises me . Nothing in the draft and UDFA had one back from Tulsa .

The guaranteed money guarantees Rogers a practice squad spot
While historically and pragmatically speaking I'm sure it does, I'm unaware that there is any obligation to commit a PS slot to any player until they actually earn it in training camp.

As I recall when Luepke got signed 3 years ago ($150k guaranteed as I recall???), his and one other reportedly made it prohibitive for them to be competitive on signing any other "priority UDFA." Of course, their commitment to Rogers per Archer is $200k.

49erss have a million RBs on their roster, there is no way they can keep all of them on the 53 and we can easily poach one.

Anybody sign the NT Corleone from Cincy?
In addition to his blood clot issues, he recently had to have tightrope surgery on his ankle and will miss most of the offseason recovering. Couldn’t be worse timing for a UDFA.

I'd still bring in Bobby Wagner to run green dot and teach Barham and the other LB's. I like Winters but he should be a backup. MLB Wagner and Barham, WLB Overshown and James. Winters the primary backup for Wagner and Overshown. Wagner's old and Overshown always gets hurt. Winters would be like the Durant signing but for the LB's; insurance for everything.

I would also think about trading Bass for a 4th next year, they have too many Olineman. Somebody they like will have to be cut or would likely be poached off the practice squad. They would also save 5.7m on the cap in a trade. Unless, Cornelius has been a disappointment for them and he is the odd man out anyways.
