guys nate netwon was on the sports talk show on david smoak on ktbb, maybe theebs or DC can put up the podcast,

anyway, nate said, first from what he sees, McQuistain has questions, maybe not have it, like in practices, McQuistan would get beat, and the defender player would come back and beat him with the same moves. Nate says come on man, you might beat me with a new move, but not with the same old moves. You have to be better than that. Also, Nate talked about, the cowboys players now have to play like they havent earned that right to be out in late november or december to come out in the game after 2 quarters or so, like some of the cowboy players did in the washington game.

I found it interesting, not sure if you guys would or not, but thought youd like to know, also Nate said from what he has seen, Doug Free has great potential, and joe burger could step in and play if need be.

All I saw from Berger is a guy who can get in the way. Even going against backups in the preseason, I didn't see him getting much push.

Maybe he's increased his strength this offseason, but IMO the only reason we kept him on the roster last year is because we lacked interior backups, which we probably still do.

yeah, i agree about that our backups arent real good, all except for Doug Free;

i was high on McQuistan until what nate said about him;

however nate did say that maybe in training camp, preseason games, and regular season games maybe mcquistan steps it up, time will tell

we do need some good backups, i think doug free is one of them though, im super high on him;

Has TC even started yet?

Maybe it's the switch to guard. I think he has better size and feet for tackle.

i'm glad free is showing promise but where the hell does he play? Flo is locked up for another 5 years (maybe) and I don't see Free as a great fit at RT.

There's a reason we drafted 2 tackles in the 3rd and 4th rounds the year after we drafted him.

Nate's assessment relevancy depends on whether McQ is getting beat do to a mental or physical deficiency. If it is the former, I won't worry so much but if it is the latter then his chances of becoming a good NFL linemen is slim and none. For our sakes let's hope it is between the ears.

Also, hopefully the “zoner tar and feather committee” will take it easy on the fella because history has shown us that it takes time for an offensive lineman to fully mature into the position.

If Nate was judged by his first couple of years of play it wouldn't be a positive review.

what is he basing this on?

I think it's his free "basing" and we thought he was a wacky weed guy.

McQ's problem is probably the position change thing, tackle to guard. Give the man sometime to adjust, at least putting the pads on.

How do you know that about our backups?

You change your mind on a player because Nate said something negative about him?

Perhaps we should wait until training camp actually begins and then follow the reports. And maybe we should consider the way these players perform in preseason games as well don't you think?

Like someone already said, if Nate was judged on his early career he wouldn't have lasted very long. So we'll get a chance to read/hear more about McQuistan in TC & in the preseason.

As for Free, he's set to become Flozel's replacement. While we did sign Flozel to a 5 year contract, it essentially is a 2-3 year deal & we can let him go w/o a cap hit when necessary. Free should be more then ready to start at LT in another 2 or so years; you can be sure he'll get enough field/game experience so he'll be ready.

Yeah, I remember hearing Nate and Brad Sham on the Michael Irvin show in the last week or so. The two were talking about which positions the Cowboys could least afford to lose and when the conversation turned to the offensive line and if the backups could fill in if necessary, Nate prefaced his spill by telling Brad he would need to help him with remembering some of their names.

Maybe Nate has trouble putting names to a player on the roster, but I would consider his opinions lightly for the time being. Most of what he said during the radio segment I heard was his assessment from last TC, so who really knows.
