IRVING, Texas – There was trepidation and a sense of uncertainty in Jason Garrett’s voice when Matt Johnson’s name came up as the head coach began listing players he expected to return to practice next week before the regular-season opener.
Nothing Garrett said Thursday suggested a quick return for Johnson next week, which could be troublesome for the bubble player as roster cuts approach. Johnson missed the remainder of the preseason after leaving the Hall of Fame Game with a foot injury.
“Anticipate him being out a little longer than that,” Garrett said. “Again, that was an injury that we thought he might come back quickly or it might take a little bit of time. It turns out, it’s taken a little bit of time.”

welp, it's been real Matt.

Cowboys injuries always take longer than they think. I think he goes IR and they keep Heath

IR designated to return makes perfect sense for him. By the time he's ready to come back someone else will be hurt and open up a roster spot.

Does not matter to me at this point whether they cut him or not. You can't miss something you never had.

They don't have a lot of money invested in the kid... I would consider sticking him on IR.

I would hold onto him. What he showed when he did play was very impressive. As long as this foot injury isn't a major injury, I would just put him on the roster. Unless it was a significant injury, then he goes to IR .....AGAIN! I HAVE TO believe that he has had a string of bad luck...have to.

When you mention 'what he showed', what are you referring to?

do a two for one deal, one Turk trip to grab two players, Arkin and Johnson and send them both packing...enough is enough carrying stiffs year after year on the roster that can't get on the field and contribute ..cut ties and move a long, Jerry can't seem to grasp that concept...
