I say cut him and be done with it. This guy makes Ratliff look lie Iron Man.

IR designated to return makes perfect sense for him. By the time he's ready to come back someone else will be hurt and open up a roster spot.

I disagree. It would be a horrible waste of a potentially important designation.

We designate this guy who has about 20 preseason snaps under belt and then a real injury occurs to someone important and can't use the designation on that player.

Because he will do the same thing next year. Dude is made of paper and the NFL is a rainstorm. He just cant hold up.

CrazyCaucasian you are absolutely right! The guy does not seem to be able to handle NFL grade contact!

He should be cut. I rather have an average player whose on the field 99.9 percent of the time than a great one who is always questionable to start.
If he does make it big somewhere else. Who cares? All that matters is that with Dallas he couldn't stay healthy and therefore is a liability more than anything.

Oh well.

It pains me to say it, but perhaps it IS time to cut the chord....since I don't know the extent of his current injury, I can't fully get on the "dump him" bandwagon...I assume the team knows his true disposition...but, if they are holding on to him with the intent of what might be later on, then that is not such a good idea...I still say PS him and if someone picks him up, so be it (they won't)

quick question, you can't pick up someone from a ps and put them on YOUR ps, right?

That is correct. They automatically count on the 53 for 3 weeks at the minimum. Matt Johnson will not be cut nor put on the PS. Depending on the foot, he will either make the 53 outright, put on IR with the return designation, or IR and out for season. I'm guessing it will be option 1.

thanx...that should provide minimal protection at the least...ps him and cut him later if he remains brittle

Too much talent to be exposed on PS. In my opinion. I think the team recognizes that these injuries are just a string of bad luck. If it were a recurring injury (like constantly pulling a hammy), that would be one thing, but it's not.

I don't blame them if they cut him.

I'm sure all involved are very frustrated.

They know he is a player, but it does them know good if they can't count on his body holding up.

And he knows he can play, but agrees that he can't blame them for the same reason mentioned.
This guy is looking at his dream going up in smoke and it has nothing to do with lack of desire or talent.

It's a shame, because we are weak at safety.
His best hope may be IR

Id say IR him..........similar sit with the WR that ended up a Pro-bowler with the Jags in the 90's......couldn't stay on the field with the Cowboys for the 3 yrs .....cut ties with him, and to my recollection, didn't have major injuries after that........

Is there any particular reason to cut him, other than the fact that everyone is frustrated that he can't stay on the field? Seriously, who do we have to give up on if we go ahead and keep him? Most of you suggesting we cut him don't really have a lot of reason behind the move, calling him a "china doll," etc. The guy has big time talent and we are relatively weak at the safety position. So simmer down and let this play out -- I think they're going to keep him. And NOT on IR, but on the 53. And it'll be funny when you guys freak out because we're letting some random fool go to hold onto what could be starting safety material.
