Unconfirmed: Spagnuolo Staying With Giants, Not Ready To Be HC...

A league source told the Washington Times that Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo doesn't feel ready to be a head coach yet.
Spagnuolo's remarkable and successful Super Bowl game plan undoubtedly upped his head coaching stock in Commanders owner Dan Snyder's eyes. Spags will interview with Snyder on Tuesday, but it seems unlikely that he'll want the job with defensive coordinator Greg Blache already in place.

I'm not sure if I want to tally that up as good news or bad news. Either way he's still in the NFC East. :(

Bad news. As an HC there was a chance he wouldn't be calling plays anymore.

That was a dumb play call. You just don't turn down opportunities like this. he's hot right now, he might not get another chance. Not that I care either way.

Did you feel that way when Garrett turned down two opportunities to be a HC?

Good news will be in Strahan finally retires now that he got a Superbowl. (he is actually more about money though) If he does, the Giants won't have Strahan, Umenyiora, and Tuck on the field at the same time anymore.

That will be incredibly good news for anyone playing the Giants.

Nope, but Garrett's circumstances are slightly different than Spags'. He's widely regarded as the in house incumbent. Spags doesn't have that luxury right now. He might get another chance....he might become the next Ron Rivera. Time will tell, but the only way to assure that you make it there is to take it when its offered.

What does it matter whether he stays or goes?

He's definitely good, but I'm not exactly shaking in my boots at him staying. We did a good job through 11.5 quarters against their D, but left too many points on the field in the last four, and had the offensive line just fold like a cheap suit for some strange reason in the last 5 minutes of one that mattered the most.

If Garrett got 3 million then Spagnuolo should sign for 5-6 mill a year. Great job by him.

I think at halftime against us they decided the only way they could beat us is to go all out and blitz every play. It worked out and they just kept the same theme. Their secondary is week and that was the only way to keep teams from picking them apart.

Probably because their next coach won't be wearing Depends and will be younger than 87 years old and actually know the rules of the NFL? That's all I can think of...!

All things being equal, it's just like you said, there are only 32 spots in the league and JG had an opportunity for two of them.

No matter the assumption for JG's supposed incumbency within the 'boys organization, there's nothing in his contract that states he's the next HC. I have no doubt that Jerry WANTS him to be the next HC, but I thought it was even more interesting that he didn't lock him into the organization completely.

They went through the panel asking each analyst who they thought would win next years SB. Mooch said the Giants first, then changed his answer to Washington.

Exactly. This guy just dismantled the most explosive offense in NFL history and made Terrific Tom look like a bubblin bum. There's no resume better than that.
