Now that the obvious underachiever MartyB is gone, are there any remaining?

What other players do you think had/has more mental issues than physical?

I heard Nate Newton talk about the DLineman Jimmie Jones from the early nineties teams. Nate said that he was a good backup/rotation player, but that he always thought and acted like he was a superstar and couldn't wait to go to another team to prove it.

Current players:

Dez - Slight Underachiever relative to talent.

Spencer - There has been speculation that he does not give 100% effort.

Hatcher - IMO, he thought he was better than he really was until not getting any interest as a FA. He appeared more motivated last year. He might have a little of the Jimmie Jones mentality.

Spears - Not a bad guy, but if he had more of a Jay Ratliff "motor", I think he could be a little better.

Past players:

MartyB - I don't really need to explain this one. The guy had great physical ability. I saw him make some ridiculous catches in training camp, sometimes just sticking 1 very-large hand up over a crowd of defenders to snag the ball. He just never put it all together in real games.

Newman - Injuries were part of it, but he didn't really play up to his talent, IMO. Also, he had multiple issues with blaming other players or coaches. There was the Pat Watkins incident a few years ago, where he ran to the sideline to tell the coaches that the busted play was Watkins' fault, not his. He got into a mini-fight with Sensabaugh on the field a couple of years ago. He got into a shoving match with Campo on the sidelines. He appeared to fake injury last year when he was burned on a big play. He was said to never play with the proper techniques and sometimes appears more confused than you would expect from a veteran player.

Bradie James - He was a workhorse with physical limitations (slow), but he appeared to think that he was a better player than he really was, IMO. He didn't appear to be the smartest guy either. I don't expect most people to agree with this one.

Montrae Holland - Had ability, but didn't get in shape until he got cut.

Bigg (Leonard Davis) - Bad technique, somewhat lazy, and appeared to be dumb, IMO.

Gurode - Needed help calling out protections from Kosier, forgot snap count often. The weird thing is that he sounded intelligent in interviews.

Roy (UT) Williams - dumb, lazy

Roy (Oklahoma) Williams - dumb, lost motivation

TO - idiot

Pacman - idiot

Tank Johnson - idiot

a few things I strongly disagree with.
I think Bradie James was if any thing an over achiever. I think he was a 4th round pick and hard to ask for a lot more than he did.
I do think it was time to move on but he was a good player for many years . Not a superstar , not someone to build a defense around but a solid player/

then there is Dez. his numbers from his 1st 2 seasons compare to the best WRs in the game. so how can any one think this guy is an underacheiver at all is mind boggling. only question for me is will he take the next step to be the superstar he can be.

Leonard Davis played at an all pro level for most of his Cowboys contract and he came here as in under acheiver so he did nothing but over acheive here.

Every player he listed was black, and their faults were either that they were dumb or lazy or thought too highly of themselves...

Why no mention of Igor Olshansky or Keith Brooking?

I find that particularly interesting and I think there is a reason for it.

Brooking never in his life was considered an under achiever

Last couple years here he was terrible. Also got into some financial trouble.

Yeah, he was bad..but nobody said he was an underachiever. He was considered washed up

Stephen McGee?
David Arkin?
James Marten?
Stephen Peterman?
Al Johnson?

McGee, maybe..you are REAAACHING w the rest

Not in the sense that they didn't underachieve. Absolutely, they did. Reaching in the sense that youre blaming the OP for not including them. None of them are household names

Brooking has always been an effort guy. Igor was just no damn good. There is a reason the OP listed these players. Every one of them has the problems listed, or they are rumored to have these problems. After looking at the list, I have read the majority of these problems and rumors on this very forum. If you can add some white players with these problems, I would agree with you if the players were guilty of it. I'm am sure the OP would as well.

Most posters here would say Igor was an idiot. Why is he not listed?

Leonard Davis was never considered lazy, just old. Same with brooking yet he is listed.

The people I listed we drafted in the same round or higher than Hatcher, yet are not listed... they are WORSE offenders... yet none of them were listed.

BEST YET?

Bobby Carpenter was not listed...

The OP and anyone who defends him are in the absolute wrong.

Davis never considered lazy?!? That's as false as they come.

He was considered lazy in Arizona, and he came here and played at a pro bowl level. I don't think he played lazy here.

And again, why wasn't Carpenter listed? Stop making excuses.

If the OP is anything like me Bobby Carpenter doesn't ever even cross his mind..it's much healthier this way

One great example?

Carpenter is one of the worst draft picks in cowboys history... Yet this guy is stretching to guys like Holland who were what 4th round draft picks that we traded for?

Holland is a more recent player..carpenter has been long forgotten by many

Didn't stop him from reaching back to Roy Williams... just stop.

Roy Williams was a MUCH bigger fail than bobby carpenter...just about every player on his list was a high profile player..save for a few. Carpenter was never a high profile player..he was an immediate loser from day 1
