Underrated Players

Of course, the people that don’t give enough credit to guys like Jordan, Martin and Hayes are guys that are too young to remember their eras. Those of us that saw them play know the impact they made.

Some guys I think are under appreciated, and probably were even while they were playing, are Neely, Nye and Niland (nature of the position, especially in those days), Cornell Green, Jim Jeffcoat, Greg Ellis, Everson Walls, Dexter Coakley ....

Barber III. This guy set the league on fire and was Beast Mode before Marshawn Lynch. Problem was he flamed out super quick from his lack of any self preservation.

I was at the Thanksgiving Day game where he pick sixed Marino.
Ol' Dan threw 5 interceptions that day. I think 2 where to Deion.

Coakley was scrappy and quick.

As a kid, I loved seeing him knock down passes.

Charlie Waters, also mentioned, was a favorite of mine as well.

For the younger fans that hopefully will be inspired to study the history of the Cowboys,
a tidbit of info for you. When you hear the term "zone coverage", that was born from attempts
to stop the great Bob Hayes. He averaged 20 yards a catch for his career. Yes, as mentioned
at the top of the thread, he doesn't get mentioned nearly at all with the greats.

And if you're a younger fan who happens to already know the history of the Cowboys, good on you.

I think Erik Williams is underrated. That was a great era for defensive linemen and Williams routinely dominated HoFs.

That 90's OL was the engine that drove the team, to not have one or more of Mark Tuinei, Nate Newton or Erik Williams in the ROH is an oversight that I'd like to see corrected.

Yeah, crazy isn't it?! John Madden would drool about those guys during broadcasts. He loved those, "wide bodies."

I know Williams was a bit of a lightning rod and got the rep as a dirty player but man o man he destroyed Brue Smith and Reggie White with regularity. No one else did that. No one.

William's played nasty like a boxer, its unfortunate he never played like he did pre injury along side Larry Allen.

Patrick Jeffers? I don’t recall him doing much.

He didn't do much as a Cowboy. He played really well when he got burn in Dallas- then lit up the league as a Panther.
