It's irrelevant what stage he's in in his career. People always confuse accomplishment with ability. Accomplishment doesn't create ability, it showcases it. If Emmitt Smith was the greatest RB talent to ever play the game that was true at any point in his career. It was his accomplishments that proved it not what created it.
Bo Jackson was a better talent than Emmitt Smith at running back. Bigger, faster, and stronger. Was he even remotely as good as a running back than Emmitt? No.

The same fans that are saying Zeke is better than Emmitt right now are the same fans that said Dez was better than Michael. We know that isnt true 6 years later...

If Bo was a better talent than yes, he was a better RB. Accomplishment doesn't create ability.

Zeke is the better athlete sure.

The better player overall? Let's give him at least 2 years minimum before we start getting all excited and overreacting like teenage females at a Bieber concert.

All I can do when I see anyone saying Elliott is better than Emmitt after a whopping 8 games is just shake my head in disbelief. I can only assume most saying this are young and do not know any better. At least I hope that's their excuse.

Ability does not equal greatness either. It takes ability AND accomplishments. Athletic ability alone doesn't cut it. It also takes brains, skill, drive, etc. Larry Bird was never a great athlete, but he was highly skilled and became an NBA legend (though I couldn't stand him).

If he does this for another 13 years, then yeah he is.
As of now this is premature.

Important to look at terminology.

Is the greatest = the guy with the most career yards?

we'll talk in 10-12 years ... Emmett was consistent, durable and the ultimate professional...I think 8 games is a little early.

And ability does not equal accomplishment. Give me accomplishment any day, all day. Lot of talented people who have accomplished squat.

That Emmitt was less genetically talented makes his accomplishments even greater. No other RB has come close to what Emmitt accomplished. That is even more impressive considering he was an anemic club footed dwarf in Robert Smith's and some fans eyes.

That was the standard for greatest RB in NFL since time immemorial .... until Emmitt won it. The Cowboy hate was and still is ridiculous. Many still believe the record rightly belongs to the loser and quitter Barry Sanders.

I have a tough time listening to Chris Carter this dude always sounds so bitter like people discount his career. Give it a rest Chris!

Emmitt was a monster, Class act, Consummate Professional, Total Heart You have to love the guy

But Longevity is not all we judge great backs or players by.

Barry Sanders, Jim Brown are widely considered to be the best even though they played less seasons. Gale Sayers was amazing but injuries took there toll. Where Zeke will end up is anyone's guess but i think we have a great one.

Odds are that in the history of the world the best, greatest, most talented running back probably never picked up a football in his entire life.....just sayin'
