The Giants are planning to implement the occasional 5-1-5 formation.

And Canty figures very prominently in that rotation when he gets back on the field. Just imagine.

Osi-Tuck-Canty-Robbins-Kiwi

Just imagine trying to cover a 2 TE set with that.

It will be a formation dictated by down and distance. Sorta how the Giants ran their Four Aces package 2 years ago with Osi-Tuck-Kiwi-Strahan. It won't be used as the base formation.

The two tight end set will not be a base offensive formation and will be implemented according to down and distance also. So what happens when both are on the field at the same time?

If it's 3rd and long I like the Giants chances, Tuck and Osi are talents which both demand double teams. Canty, Robbins, and Kiwanuka are talents which can be relied upon to beat their one-on-one matchup more often then not. That's 7 blockers occupying 5 rushers, which leaves 3 receivers trying to get open against 6 guys in coverage.

Well considering Canty has been nursing a tight hamstring and has been relegated to the stationary bike for most of training camp, perhaps that is what he may have been referring to?
I knew there had to be a reason he wasn't dominating yet.

After all, he got the Parcells personal recommendations!!1!!

I haven't followed Canty, I read that he was out of the roatation, but you indicated earlier that he has been hurt so maybe that is why

"Cofield returned at the start of training camp, though he’s only been able to practice once a day. His spot on the team is obviously secure and it appears that so is his place in the starting lineup. It hasn’t hurt that the Giants’ two new additions - - DT Chris Canty (six years, $42 million), DT Rocky Bernard (four years, $16 million) - - have spent much of the summer in the rehab area. Canty has missed several days with a hamstring injury. Bernard is currently on the “non-football injury” list with the same thing.

Please tell us more about how big of a mistake it was to let Canty take all that money from the Giants and instead sign Igor "Quitter" Olshansky, Giants-fan.

Then tell us how it feels to have the highest paid player in the NFL.

Then we'll all laugh at the silly Giants, trying to "buy a championship".

I'm not here to try to convince anyone of anything. You guys are the ones trying to convince yourselves Igor is the better player, the same way you guys have convinced yourselves you will be better offensively without one of the best WR's in the game.

I'm just highlighting the fact that Igor got benched last year on a bad defense, for lack of effort. Lack of effort displayed in a contract year, the one year when a player should have all the motivation in the world to leave it all on the field.

And the Giants don't need to buy a championship, they just added pieces to an already stacked nucleus of talent.

Everything I've read indicates that the 2TE set is our base offense, as it should be.

Of course it's going to be dictated by down and distance. The 3-4 is our base, and we run that most often, but we're not going to use it on a 3rd and 12.

We will run the 2TE quite a bit, but we're not going to use it on a 3rd and 12.

Second of all, lmao.

You're correct. I stand corrected. What I should have stated was that the two tight end set would not be the base passing offensive formation. It would be the base rushing offensive formation which the tight ends could motioned out of to create mismatches for the defense and/or not even motion out of.

That is basically the Cowboys "Cowboy" line up. They will get abused in the 2 TE set. While Kiwi might be able to cover one of the TEs with safety help, Osi will get thoroughly abused with or without safety help.

To say we *won't* use it on 3rd and 12 is probably not true. I'm willing to bet, you will in fact see it on occasions on 3rd and 12. Especially if Felix is in the back field. Witten, Bennett, Felix, and Roy are all capable of covering 12 yards in a hurry and they are all mismatches for a defense.

I do agree that you won't see it as often as you do on 1st and 2nd down, but to see you won't see it and I believe is incorrect.

the beauty of the 2-TE is that even on passing downs, you can come out in a 3-WR set by splitting Bennett out wide, or even 4 if Miles Austin is on the field

One of the real strong aspects of a 2-TE set is that you have balance for your rushing attack. There is no weak or strong sides really then. It also makes it awfully hard to just run around our big OTs.

Correct.

I was just using 3rd and 12 as a guideline. We may very well use it on 3rd and 12, but I'd bet we're more likely to roll out a 3/4 WR package with Austin/Hurd more than a 2TE set, thats all I'm saying.
