Yeah I saw this. Everything is over now. This is just about a 7 minute walk away from where I work (by the Smithsonian Castle by the mall). Think I'll stroll over to take a gander...

All clear after shots fired at the U.S. Capitol
By Chris Moody and Dylan Stableford | Yahoo News – 37 mins ago

WASHINGTON — U.S. Capitol Police lifted a shelter-in-place warning at all U.S. Senate office buildings on Thursday after multiple shots were heard fired in the area, and one female suspect who had been driving erratically and struck a barricade was reported in custody.

A U.S. Capitol Police spokesman said that one officer was injured in a crash while pursuing the suspect.

The sergeant said he did not know the condition of the suspect, but did confirm that police located a child inside the suspect’s car.

“We have no information that this is related to terrorism or is anything other than an isolated incident,” a police sergeant told reporters.

Miriam Carey, Capitol Suspect, Suffered Post-Partum Depression

A woman killed by police today after a high-speed chase through Washington, D.C., that led to a lockdown of Capitol Hill suffered post-partum depression following the recent birth of her daughter, the suspect's mother told ABC News.

The woman was believed to be Miriam Carey, 34, a dental hygienist from Stamford, Conn., authorities told the woman's family, according to a family spokesman.

Authorities described Carey has having a "mental illness."

"She had post-partum depression after having the baby" last August, said the woman's mother, Idella Carey.

She added, "A few months later, she got sick. She was depressed. ... She was hospitalized."

Talk about over-reaction. If I'm her family I'm filing a huge lawsuit this morning...

I disagree. They were doing what they're trained to do in any situation where there's a potential threat to the White House. It's totally unfortunate, but I can't imagine what they could've done differently.

Agreed.

Too bad they didn't have one of the car disabling devices.

Depressed or not... Why? Do what she did? Specifically?

Overreaction?

Do you even know what happened?

First, she rammed her car into a barrier in front of the White House.

That by itself could have killed her baby in the car, and had she broken through the barrier, who knows how many pedestrians she would have injured/killed.

Then she ignores police, almost runs over a few of them in the process, rams into a couple police cruisers, injuring several officers, then leads police on a high speed chase right down the most famous and most visited street in our entire country.. and tries to ram a barrier in front of the capitol as well. She put the lives of many many people in danger, let alone her own baby.. and officers had no idea what the intentions were of such an imbecile.

I hope the family does bring a lawsuit to court.. so that they can be laughed right out of the courtroom.

I read her boyfriend called police about 12 months ago when this woman told him the president was after her or something to that effect.

She also suffered from schizophrenia.
