Do you really think AD will come to Dallas for 5M to be home when others will pay him close to double? Indy with a running game would definitely be closer to a championship.

I think you are greatly overestimating AP's value. For a 24 year old AP in today's NFL, sure some team MIGHT decide to splurge like that ($10 mill per year), even though the RB position has been greatly de-valued. But for a 30 year old AP with off-field issues? I don't think so. I would be shocked if he was offered more than $6 million/year by anybody.

But on the flip side, they're tying up their cap space until they release him too. Not too much to spend on free agents at that point either.

And if they eventually intend to do it, they're better off getting it over with rather than a prolonged sparring match in the press with their best player.

Good point. However, how much under the cap are they now already. That would influence if they need to jettison AP now or whether they can play the waiting game.

They are already 20m under and can get another 15m by cutting Greenway and GJennings. They don't have any big FAs of their own to re-sign.

I just don't see the point in dragging it out over the summer. They are building a new stadium and don't need the bad PR of a prolonged battle. Either keep him and pay him or cut him loose.

Lavante Murray has 424 yards in two NFL seasons. The Raiders will be looking to improve their running back position. I doubt they look Peterson's way, but they won't be counting on Murray.

I have to say I disagree Jo. Those yards are misleading due to the fact he was not used under the old regime and when he was finally used he showcased his potential. Murray will be the opening day starter for the Raiders baring an injury.

Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie said Latavius Murray "showed that he can be a player" in 2014.
He certainly did, rushing for 413 yards over the final six games including a breakout 112-yard effort against Kansas City in Week 12. New coach Jack Del Rio recently stopped short of declaring Murray the starter, but we seriously doubt aging Maurice Jones-Drew is a threat. The Raiders aren't expected to re-sign Darren McFadden, which should open up even more carries for Murray. New OC Bill Musgrave said he's planning to "tailor" his run game to fit Latavius. Very true. But I see little point in tying up money in that way, and again, Peterson can always press the issue by working out at the Vikings' facilities. After all, he's 'under contract', right? And if he were to get hurt and be unable to play, they're on the hook for the whole thing.

Is it worth the risk to them to be petulant and spiteful, while the press has a field day with a 'player held hostage'?

How long will it take to go through the CBA process?

Or how long can the NFL string him out?

Are we tempted by the NE running back system? Keep using young, cheap backs. If yes then we won't pay Murray or Peterson what they want.

We can just have AP follow Randle and Dez around to keep them out of trouble.

Sounds like a semantics game. If his suspension is over-turned how could he not be reinstated?

It just depends on how much face Goodell wants to save. Peterson served a 6 game suspension last year. Just give him back the 4 game checks that would equal a 2 game suspension under the old policy.

They also have to deal with Ray Rice and Greg Hardy under the old policy. I don't see the commissioner's exempt list being used again.

They applied the new drug policy retroactively to Josh Gordon and OScandrick, but they benefited so the NFLPA won't fight those.
