Wouldn't Minn be better off trading him to a team other than Dallas and getting something for him? Like OAK for picks or something.

I can't see a down-right cut incoming.

Oakland has its new bellcow in Lavante Murray and Minn has their's his name is Jerold McKinin...neither of these teams will be in the market for a bellcow if Peterson is let go.

I don't think anybody will trade for that contract Peterson has right now.

This thread is disgusting. Any "man" that beats a four year old child until his testicles bleed is no man.

I agree with this, I got wipped with a switch many times growing up, that being said, the kid was four years old, don't you think one tap on the butt would have been sufficient?

I gotta admit I didn't see this coming, AP to Dallas is a possibility now. Personally I would prefer D. Murray, I don't work at Valley Ranch.

Question(s): How long do the Vikings hold on to Peterson? When does he officially become a free agent? If sooner than the draft, I don't see the Vikings doing anything with him until the last minute. They don't want to give the Cowboys or any other team an advantage of picking him up early.

A new Head Coach will usually push to win as much as possible now. Many GMs try to win now despite the odds because they might not have a job later if they don't.

I don't see anybody trading for Peterson because his salary comes with him in a trade. The Vikings would be better off to just cut him than to dork around trying to get a 7th round pick.

Exactly my thinking. Especially if they dare approach him about any sort of pay cut. With this suspension lifted they have no choice but to deal with him.

But on the flip side, they're tying up their cap space until they release him too. Not too much to spend on free agents at that point either.

And if they eventually intend to do it, they're better off getting it over with rather than a prolonged sparring match in the press with their best player.

I can't believe I see so many people against signing AP. I mean I know he's got baggage and he's gonna be 30, but he's a freakin' beast and someone who rushed for 2,000 yards a year after tearing his ACL. I truly believe no other running back in this league could do that. Trust me, I love DeMarco and I wouldn't be upset at all if we re-signed him, but I equally would love AP on this team.

You just gave yourself three reasons why. Baggage, 30, and already torn ACL. I wouldn't mind seeing him with a star on his helmet either but I doubt he plays for anyone for under 10M.

Even if they held onto him until their books had to be square (under the cap) they'd only be causing more drama, probably get sued by the NFLPA for acting in bad faith, and make other players look sideways at coming there in the future. If you treat players bad you get a bad reputation.

Not to mention the field day the media would have with the back and forth between player and team.

Remember how much attention the media and specifically BSPN got from the whole TO - Philadelphia fiasco?

Yeah, they have to be salivating over what they might get here...

And I'll bet it's a deal that looks like $7 million per year but actually pays him $5 million.

If it was simply about money, he wouldn't be saying a word about the Vikings, the team currently overpaying him by $7 million, because no other team in the league would.

I agree, especially knowing MINN has to pay him 13m or release him.

Peterson has all the leverage. Not only does he get the money back from his suspension getting overturned, but MINN owes him 43m over the next 3 years. If he shows up for OTAs and camp they have to let him practice or lock him out, ala Steve McNair.

MINN knows if he gets hurt at practice they owe him the entire 13m. If they try to get him to renegotiate or accept a trade he just says no, "I have a contract". If they trade him to OAK without his consent he gets the entire 13m.

No way MINN holds on to him just out of spite.
