TE-Szcerba
OL- (I don't see how they can cut anymore here)
WR- Holmes, Benford, Saliim
DE- Spears, Coleman, Lissemore
NT- Brent, Calloway
OLB- Atkins, Wilbur
ILB- (by my count there are only four left making more cuts unlikely)
CB- AOA, Williams, Butler
S- McCray, Johnson, Silva

I may have missed a couple, but with 10 more cuts, who stays, who goes?

With Chapas gone, I think the Cowboys probably keep another TE .... maybe Szcerba, but I think they're going to hit the waiver wire pretty hard looking for someone better. Wouldn't surprise me if one of the Chargers TEs end up here.

Could be. TE Justin Peelle got released by the Steelers in their first round of cuts shortly after being signed, so don't know if he was out of shape or just an emergency guy that they found out they didn't need. He's a 10-year vet, though, so may not want him to have a guaranteed salary even though they could sign him right away. Maybe just go with Szczerba or Olawale for depth initially.

For some reason, I had Whitley already being reported as being released, but he's not on the official lists I've seen. Not sure where that happened...

Then why didn't Geathers get one?

I fully acknowledge that I'm not in the film room, and I have no idea how these guys conduct themselves in the meetings or the weight room, but I just see a pattern of "known mediocrity" being valued higher than "unknown quality". I could be wrong, and probably am. I'm sure there are going to be 30 other guys, relatively equal to Geathers and Bass hitting the waiver wire in the next 24 hours.

Yeah, somewhere along the line it became en vogue to call every big, fast raw small school WR "the next Randall Williams". If they merely catch 2 passes for 50 yards, they aren't natural WRs and they suck because they should be catching 5 receptions for 120 yards. Meanwhile, every slow guy who catches one slant pass for 12 yards is the next Steve Largent and is more deserving of the spot. It's led to some pretty epic lulz over the years.

Assuming Holmes makes the team as the final WR, he's pretty much following on the Miles Austin "physically talented by raw as sushi" career path trajectory ... Year 1: Practice Squad. Years 2: Make 53 man and play special teams and maybe catch 5-15 passes. Year 3: Win 3rd WR role. Year 4: Compete for starting spot. I think that's pretty much the realistic path you hold these type of guys to.

I wonder what percentage of the NFL carries 3 QBs. I imagine the vast majority of them suck horrendously. There aren't 20 good QBs to go around in the NFL, much less 90. I imagine they mostly hold value in weekly practice and preparation services with the scout team against the defense.

That, and it gives you someone who knows the playbook to call on to serve as a back-up for a game or two if your starter gets dinged.
