OK. So that makes it likely that it would be Dockery, unless Dallas cuts from another position since it only has eight linemen (Smith, Livings, Costa, Bernadeau, Free, Parnell, Dockery, Arkin).

and Cook

Yes, if we cut from another position. If we cut Dockery, then we still have eight.

Since it's more typical to carry nine, I think we'll cut an extra player from one of the other positions.

"Cowboys rookie safety Matt Johnson has been told he will be on the team’s active roster, a league source said."

Looks like Matt will make it!
Good. I think Johnson is worth the extra look. His measurables are above average for the position, and from what I read he's supposedly a pretty smart player. He just needs to get and stay healthy, and then who knows...

not a lot of surprises and i wouldn't be shocked if we make another ryan cook type deal.

holmes over coale doesnt surprise me. cowboys could be wrong but they kept the guy with the larger upside.

cole over coale. again no surprise to me as cole beasley was open far more and possessed uncanny short area quickness.

ronald leary. again not a shock to me. he was simply lumbering and not very strong. looked a lot like gurode's final year... yea that 65 takes me back.

mcgee. i dont think he is long for the team but again also think people were shooing him out the door unnecessarily. he didnt lose the 3rd qb job and that is an important job on an nfl team with playoff aspirations. garrett was a backup qb for cripessake. i think he will ALWAYS carries 3 QBs.

orie lemon. loved that pick 6 but he doesn't look like a tremendous athlete. we could do a lot worse with bottom of the roster special teams guys but he has zero upside at lb imho.

god bless all these guys and hopefully they find gainful employment soon either in or out of football. i respect all of them for chasing their dreams.

matt johnson vs danny coale. that actually became the battle imho. 2 draft picks that were injured and showed very little because of it. dallas stuck with the higher pick which isnt a surprise. if johnson easily outplays mana silva perhaps coale makes this club.

No, you think there would be an upside. But there's a lot more to what players can or can't achieve than the small percentage we, as fans, can see or know. So if the guys who have been playing, scouting, and coaching for 25-30 years say a young guy's potential upside is not worth the risk of losing something they know--at least for the short term--they're more likely to be right than we are. Not 100% of the time, mind you...but more likely. If you take the mindset that you always keep potential over someone who is solid, you're going to have a bad football team most of the time.

And for the record, the Cowboys have not done the same thing year after year. In fact, the last few years have been markedly better from a personnel perspective. But all the potential in the world does you zero good if it doesn't come out on the field. And the fact is that the players have not gotten the job done on the field when it's mattered. And news flash--Stephen McGee, who may be on the cut list anyway if Mike Fisher's source is correct, wasn't the one on the field not getting it done. Just sayin'...

I'd love to pull up game threads to see what these same fans frothing at the mouth over McGree were saying during this game

He replaces Arkin as the backup center, IMHO. Arkin needs to work on his strength for another year before he's worthy of carrying on an NFL roster. Dockery showed progress throughout the preseason as he knocked the rust off.

Do you expect Arkin to get cut?

dallas is far more likely to end up with 10 ol than it is to go with 8.

smith, livings, costa, bern, free start.
parnell, cook, dockery are actives.
arkin inactive as swing interior player.
wouldn't at all shock me is dallas steals a 10th developmental guy they like more than leary unless they get a couple guys to the PS.

Yes. And then put on the PS.

They are not going to cut him and no he would not make it to the PS hell we could not even waive Naggy injured and put him on IR

IDK? If the Cowboys traded to get a player like Cook, it smacks of saying they don't yet have enough faith in what they've seen from Arkin to keep him on the 53, so... to the PS with him for more seasoning, like Inman said.

Certainly seems plausible to me. Guess we'll know soon enough.

To be honest, the way Arkin played and got tossed around like a rag doll all pre season, he can go somewhere else and get tossed around. He is weak and slow.

I don't know why anyone thinks Arkin would be some hot commodity. The best think you can say about Arkin is that he got a lot of playing time by default after 3 players in front of him. He didn't actually do anything other than manage to stay a healthy warm body on a team that had literally no other alternatives. He was pitiful against the Dolphins.

If the Cowboys go out and trade for a veteran like Cook, it means the thought of Arkin having to step in and play this year gives them nightmares.

According to sources, the Cowboys have informed Shaun Chapas, Adrian Hamilton, Danny Coale, Eddie Whitley, Orie Lemon, Ronald Leary, Pat McQuistan, Jeff Adams, Teddy Williams, Harland Gunn, Daniel Loper, Clifton Geathers, Rudy Carpenter, Lionel Smith, Baraka Atkins, Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, Andrew Szczerba, Ben Bass, Saalim Hakim, Tim Benford and Robert Callaway of their release.

No real shockers there. That's only 21 though, and I think we need to cut 22?

Tim MacMahon ‏@espn_macmahon
Cowboys still have two cuts (and maybe more after waivers claims). QB Stephen McGee, RBs Lance Dunbar and Jamize Olawale still hanging on.

------------------------------

Just another reminder, 1st post has the latest cuts with two remaining per Tim MacMahon

We actually need to cut two more players due to the aquisition of Cook.

McGee and Olawale?
