I have to think 2 RBs are gone, and if Jenkins comes back McGee might be.

Those are the three most logical choices. The other possibility is that they could cut either Dockery or Arkin to make room for Cook initially and then re-sign them after week one IF they want to keep one of those extra RBs. Cook is most likely to be active as a back-up week 1 because of his versatility. Arkin is still eligible for the PS, although I don't know if he would clear waivers, and Dockery would prevent the Cowboys from guaranteeing his salary.

You mean so the Giant's can't sigh him?
Pretty much, yes. I really hope that's what they are doing, and they aren't going to really hold on to that loser.

McGee is in possession of all the launch codes, and we can't cut him without all our secrets being compromised? Sweet deal.

No, if they hang on to him that long, they'd have to pay him for the whole season.

The 53 on the roster by kickoff on Wednesday are guaranteed their salary for the season.

If they cut a linemen Dockery makes the most sense we lose Arkin if we cut him.

LOL, sorry about that.

In fact, does anyone know the deadline for the final 53-man roster in terms of salary guaratees?

Okay, now I have 27 on Offense, 24 on Defense, 3 on STs, and one coming off PUP.

That makes 55.

So we still have 5 RBs, 3 QBs, Coleman, Dockery, and 2 cuts to make.

I have to think we've got a trade in the snifter.

I'm really beginning to wonder about that as well, Hos. There's little to no reason to keep 5 RBs, even if you're planning to use Olawale as a back-up FB and TE. There's just no way to get them all active on gameday, and that's where the real value is.

I know there was a report that the Cowboys were trying to trade Coleman or Spears, and I guess that's still possible. But they're down to 7, and I don't know that they'll go down to 6 without knowing for certain that Ratliff is going to be good to go on Wednesday.

I think they could easily cut Dockery since Cook has been brought in, and then they wouldn't have to guarantee his salary. And McGee is a no-brainer to me UNLESS they actually have a team interested in trading a 7th-rounder for him.

The more likely trade bait, as much as I hate to even say it, is Felix. I don't really want that to go down, as I'm not real comfortable with Tanner and two rookies behind Murray. But 5 RBs is at least one too many, in my opinion.

My thoughts as well. There's also the fact that Arkin's salary hit is lower than Dockery's even it were guaranteed as well.

Hey Wulf,

What about Jenkins? Is he a trade possibility. I know he's been injured and other teams haven't had a chance to see him play after the injury but could it be him based on his performance prior to the injury?

I doubt it very seriously. Anything is possible, of course, but they only have 5 CBs on the roster still, and a healthy Jenkins is too much of a comfort as a back-up plan for the Cowboys to make that kind of move unless they get blown away with an offer (it would take at least a second round pick that they believe would be in the top half of the round, in my opinion).

Unless they wanted to replace him with a veteran like when they signed Frank Walker, they'd either have to re-sign one of the corners they cut (please dear God NO) or trust Butler to be one of the top three corners on gameday in the event of an injury.

I don't know about you guys but I thought Ben Bass looked good out there. Always getting pressure and through the OL. I hope we manage to keep him on the practice squad or something.

I believe that's the plan, as he needed a lot of technique work. He flashed early in the preseason, but then leveled off as preseason went along. Some time on the practice squad could be just what the doctor ordered.
