Good luck getting the culture to change because it requires everyone to hop on board for a shared purpose. A few dissenters and the whole thing crashes and burns.

And then there's Jerry who, as everyone knows, has different expectations. Ultimately, Jerry is going to be the one to derail everything Schotty claims to be working on.

The team and players can have their own culture. They do not need to follow the Jerry way.
Just handle business on the field.

I just don't believe that happens when you don't have a tough coach here who doesn't fall into the puppet Category. Players here, historically, aren't mature enough to step up into roles of leadership when the coach isn't a leader. Coaches can't be leaders as long as they are puppets and Jerry isn't willing to let go of a bit of control. Jimmy wasn't a Puppet, The Tuna wasn't a puppet, but all the rest of the coaches the players could always sidestep and go directly to Jerry. You won't build culture as long as you have that, IMHO.

Its easy to say the right things now, lets see how the season goes.

That goes without saying, but it doesn't hurt to have that attitude early and often. Especially from Tyler Smith, a team leader.

The more important question is: What team was it where Schotty successfully installed a culture at, where it was missing? I mean you bring in someone like Parcells or Jimmy and I can believe it. You bring in someone who doesn't exactly have a rep for being tough...

They do have some control, but ultimately, if there is no fear of the coach to an extent, where players like TO know they can just sidestep the coach and talk to the owner directly, then there isn't the kind of respect of the coach has that is needed to make them the true leader of the team. We don't really have players who can take over the leadership roles that the coaches have lacked around here, so you don't build culture. Jerry hasn't given up any more control of the team since that brief stint with Parcells after Jimmy. As long as Jerry doesn't step back and let the Coach be the defacto leader of the team, you are never going to have culture.

Business on the field is directly impacted by the culture off the field. It takes 6 days to get ready for game day. Those 6bdays directly impact it. It takes training camp and off season to get ready for season. Culture directly impacts that

Has anyone here ever changed or influenced anyone else's opinion of the team, or a player, or anything? I highly doubt it.

And therein lies the problem. Great teams are cohesive units that all operate on a single wavelength. Not this subculture within a culture nonsense. The latter is how you end up with Sam Williams planning a victory party before the GB game.

that stupidity still gets on my nerves. even if they won the game there shouldn't be a party. the only party comes after superbowl win. otherwise go back to the drawing table. and that single act explains how jerry thinks.

Tyler Smith, one of two resident leaders of an offensive now without a recently retired Zack Martin, spoke from OTAs about what culture means to him going forward.
"I think it's huge for the success of this football team," said the All-Pro. "Establishing the culture early and getting everybody onboard is ultimately our goal. Schotty talks about it every day, but we're gonna compete everyday. Sometimes he has to pull back on us [in practice] but I'd rather him pull back on us than us not go hard. … The ultimate goal is to win the Super Bowl."

Good Post, Hopefully the Culture Change will bring with it some much needed disapline, penalties killed this team during the McCarthy era.It is hard to be successful is this league if you lead the league in penalties, this must improve.

Ping pong is great but if you want to really start to change the culture get Jerry the heck out of the locker room and off the sidelines. He should be watching from a distance. He shouldn't be interacting with players or coaches during practices. If he needs to talk to Schottenheimer call him.
Get rid of the public tours while these players are working out and let Schottenheimer handle all press conferences with the media.
Basically get outta the way Jerry!
