I was flipping channels and they showed Germany getting beat; they were very confident they were going to win their third one; and they laid a big egg. This is in Germany and the crowd was sitting there with their mouths open as the game ended. Japan knocked them off.

I loved it.

Yeah that was a BIG upset to say the least - they said 20 million germans were watching on TV - in a nation of like 80 mil that 1 in 4 ppl. WOW!

Just watching the end of that game just blew my mind. When the US got that header I was just like wait what just happened. You also got to laugh at that Brazil PKs Gameplan Lets kick the ball to the same spot 3 straight times. Solo will never see it coming.

What a game. Watched the whole thing from start to finish. I loved how even the nuetral fans were strarting to root for the US after they saw how much team was being hosed by not only the official but the Brazilian team. I mean flopping is part of the game but they took it to the extreme. The only thing I could say is that they were probabaly trying to catch their breath because the Brazilian team loked exhausted even being up a man for over 80 minutes. That has to rank up there with one of the greates comebacks in US sports history-male or female especially with all the obstacles that our women team had to over come.

I am thankful to that one Brazilian player for scoring our 1st goal and then choking in the shootout. I am also thankful to Erika for acting like a complete tool and giving the US the extra time needed to tie the score.

I am still in disbelief that Brazil didn't become more aggressive once they got the man advantage....especially after they took the lead. They just sat back and tried to play out the clock for the most part.

Just got home and watched the highlights.

What an amazing performance.

Only right that Gus Johnson was there to call this game.

Good job ladies!

As to Donavan - I don't know, IMO he's the only truly great US player, the guy can kick with both feet, he can shoot and gives some nice feeds - he's the most technically sound player we got.

If we had a couple of more Donavans we'd be in good shape. It always seems like we have that one great player and that it - I remember when Tab Ramos was our best, then I think it was Claudio Reyna and now Donavan.

Thats where we'r not up to the top counties - the technical side/the individual skill side.

That is the biggest problem with the American game. We have plenty of athletes to play soccer, but none of them have the technical ability to actually be great at the sport. Our most talented soccer players are often overlooked because they do not have the size, strength, or speed of the prototypical American athlete.

If you look at the elite soccer players around the world most of them don't look like the American athlete. if Messi were born in the States he wouldn't make it past high school soccer because of his size.

I'm pretty sure that link is to a mesh of Gus Johnson calling a Gonzaga game played over the Wombach goal.

Morgan came in late in the game after both teams were exhausted...so she was going against tired Brazilians...so she better have looked good.

Good point, but Rodriguez just looked bad. She had bad touches and kept giving up the ball easily. She has to play better and I think she can.

it now has to be seen if this will be the beginning of this group getting its own identity and separating themselves once and for all from the originals.

I DVRed it and I've must have watched the last few minutes of the game about 10 times....lol

One thing tho - my heart does go out to that Brazilian player Daiane - she's the one who had the own goal, she didn't reach the long pass to Wambach (sp) and she missed her PK, dayum that girl must feel horrible.
