Good point, IMO the most important thing is that Jones is one of those guys like Frederick that is off the charts intelligent (by NFL standards). I've seen articles that say he already knows all the assignments for both CB positions and the FS position. Frederick wasn't overwhelmed by the transition to the NFL and his intelligence was part of that. Jones should have the same kind of quick adjustment.

I would like to see those articles if you have the links.. (I'm being serious). I really like Jones and read anything that is available.

The Cowboys have not used a "dime", 6 DB's often in the last couple years. 5 has been the maximum for the most part, so using a "dime" would be a radical departure for this club– I think it's a good move, provided you have a DB like Jones who's big enough to do the job.

Sounds like Romo is rusty to start. Missing guys in the flat and multiple INTs. Can't afford for him to take 2.5 games to get back in the swing of things like last year with 2 NFC East opponents to start.

Back obviously isn't a concern but being 35-36 is..

LOOOOL.

Probably better to spend your time worrying about someone worth worrying about...like Lee or Mo.

I think the idea here is actually having the talent to run it consistently now and not have a gaping hole on the defense.

Could be a good thing against teams like Green Bay, who used our 3rd and 4th CBs as turnstiles in the playoffs.

Well by definition isn't a dime run with 5 DB? I thought any formation with 6 DB was a big dime?

Really been impressed with Byron Jones. Kid has the physical tool to be a very good player but also very intelligent kid to catch on to things quickly.

Man I hope they don't mess this guy's development up by having him move all over the field. They need to find a role for him and let him work at it.

It sounds like Jones is able to take whatever the coaches throw at him, so I wouldn't be too worried about his development. If anything it might help him become a leader on Defense knowing a lot of different positions and where they are supposed to line up.

It was indicate a degree of function as well as diversity not found upon the carpet for quite a while, in the secondary.

Did the author just "discover" the dime defense?

I took it as he was just describing which position Jones was playing. If he said he played Safety in the Dime, it would be misleading.

It also gives the staff an opportunity to see what roles he may excel at or not, so they have a better idea what roles he should focus on.

To your concerns; I sort of agree and had the same concerns about Hichens last year. Let the young man be good at 1 or 2 things first.
