It is not just that Roy doesn't have Woodson to lean on anymore as far as backfield coverage goes. He is even whiffing on plays close to the line of scrimmage. His attitude is questionable and physically he is letting himself go. He basically is fat and happy except on the field.

this is definitely cause for concern. Roy doesn't make himself available for interviews...I mean, yeah, it's his right to do as he likes. But as a 'leader' of the team, it's important to be accountable. Romo, Witten, Bradie, Ferguson, Newman , **** even TO are all willing to face the media...why not Roy? What's his problem?

that wasnt a gimme play...he was running full speed into the backfield...it wasnt like he had a dead bead on him and somehow missed him
If you think the players we have on defense can only be trusted to make the gimme plays, then there is a lot less talent there than you say.

Like you said, the talent on defense is there.

Roy has the talent to make that play, and in a playoff game, you depend on a Pro Bowler to make that play.

So Vela's biggest criticisms are 1) where last year's MVP makes a side move to dodge a full speed Roy 2) a play where he doesn't even know what was called and relies on Mortenson's comments - the same guy who said Parcells is going to retire every year and that Henson would be starting the first game in 2004.

I'm disappointed with Vela's evidence.

honestly who cares? Maybe he doesnt have anything good to say and is choosing to remain quiet...rather than cause a problem by saying "man our defensive scheme really blows and we are at a huge disadvantage on game day" he is choosing not to say anything

Vela is wrong about alot of stuff...not sure why so many on here worship the guy

that 1st down play on the goaline in seattle was just miserable.

I really hope roy had a bum shoulder.

If not he has alot of making up for next year.

For all the bellichik lovers, if he were here next year there is a chance he would lawyer milloy him or trade him if he could.

Milloy was a power safety like williams then that element of his game slipped and he was just an average guy without the big hits.

I dont think roy is going anywhere, I hope to see him healthy and improved next year. He was not as physical as he normally is the last 5 or 6 games so I think form the brace he was wearing something was up with his shoulder.

been saying it all year...get a better scheme, we'll see better results

there is nothing wrong with the players...we have plenty enough talent to be a solid to very good defense

David

Dude you need a new agenda. The scheme we played was probably to protect some of the poor players we had. you think the team doesnt know what its weaknesses are.

You reference scheme like there is a magic one that makes bad players good.

I dont like having that much invested in his position in the first place.

If your defense isnt pretty stout it doesnt make any difference. And if it is pretty stout you dont need what he brings even on his best day anyhow.

Sure if your defense is stout and then you have a guy come up and turns out to be like him when he's playing great, thats nice.

Like I said elsewhere.. it's about like having one of the best TE's in the game on offense. Thats cool but if your O-line and QB arent all that it wont make much difference. In other words there's different positions on offense where you'd rather have one of the best guys in the game if you had a choice in the matter because they'd stand to have more of an impact.

Cant really say I'm surprised it happened this way though. When you finally hit on a draft pick after so many years of futile drafts it's understandable why you'd throw money at the guy when his contract comes up.

And to be fair, Roy hasn't played like this until now. Sure, he was average at best in coverage, but he never played the run so poorly before this year. So I don't think the contract was that out of line... Unless we somehow knew he wouldn't play like he had in the past.

Williams played as well this year as he has in any other season, it's just that the intellectually lazy are looking for scapegoats and don't bother to understand everything that's happening. He's no longer looking to make "jacked up" on every play so he's terrible.

If Vela really wanted to assign blame on the Alexander run after the bobbled snap, the blame should start and end with Ferguson, he got blown up by a mediocre player, but that doesn't fit the agenda.

Plaxico Burress is laughing saying Roy never could find the ball.
As much as I dislike Burress, he’s right. Roy took the strangest angle to the ball you can imagine.
This goes back to coaching. Roy should NEVER be put in this positon to cover anyone like Burress. God Zimmer really sucked.

Uhh...he's a defensive back. He's always going to be required to be in a position to cover guy's like Burress. He didn't take a bad angle on that play. If the ref wasn't there he would have had the perfect angle to either (1) make a play on the ball or (2) knock the living @#$* out of Burress to cause an incompletion.
