Free was decent -- he was ready to protect the passer but his run blocking was mediocre at best.
You can look at your draft guides all you want -- but the fact is that 32 teams passed on Heyer and Ugoh was picked 42nd overall. That tells me that real experts obviously had these guys miles apart.
And before you go saying "but look at what Heyer did" you need to look at what 100 all the other OTs picked after Ugoh did -- in most cases, not much.
Yes, and free had an injury that scared teams from taking him higher. he should have gone somewhere in the second round.
and he is on the team now, where he was drafted doesnt matter now. Just like barber, canty, ratliff, crayton, romo, austin etc....It just doesnt matter. He is on the team and he has talent.
The same people that were speaking highly of romo, james and marion barber have said good things about what they saw from Doug free. I bet he is given the opportunity to play tackle next year and if he struggles mcquistan can move over there.
the giants cut their expensive old left tackle and it worked out okay for them. Different situation with diehl, but the principal is the same.
trust your draft, coaches and players.
