That seems like a more balanced approach. The YPA is great, but you get more of the "game changing" aspects in PR - you get the good -- how many picks the guy had and the bad in terms of TDs. All things considered, I think most coaches would prefer an average YPA combined with more turnover than a good YPA with fewer.
Maybe. Here's the correlation coefficient to winning percentage for the 2006 season.

Pass Yds / Att.......0.506
INTs.................0.489

Obviously finding the optimal balance would be incredibly difficult (and probably useless), but I do think INTs can be a little overrated at times.

try it as a multiple regression -- does each add uniquely?

Will do sometime. More pressing issues at the moment.

On the other side of the spectrum, Newman doesnt get the picks because he doesnt have good hands quite simply.

The combination of the two have him being below par for interceptions for a player of his caliber.

You have no clue what you are talking about! Newman won the Big 12 Defensive player of the year, Jim Thorpe Award for the best DB and was a finalist for the Nagurski Trophy as the best defensive player as a senior.

Want more, In his rookie season Newman started all 16 games, having 4 picks in 2004. In 2005, Newman had 3 picks and DIDN'T GIVE UP A SINGLE TD ALL YEAR!

We all know what Newman did last year, making the Probowl!!

I suggest you know what you are talking about before making silly comments like you did.

I have followed Newman his whole college and now Pro career!!

I also recall, Champ bailey, a future HOFer said Newman was one of the best cover corners in t he NFL!

Newmans hands are not that good...if they were he would have made the pro bowl before now...and the Cowboys would have made the playoffs Parcells 2nd to last year...that interception he dropped on Thanksgiving day against the Broncos had TD written all over it...Pro Bowl written all over it...Playoffs written all over it...instead he dropped it...we lost...he did not make the Pro Bowl...and we missed the playoffs by one game that year

P.S. - that game would be the game when Champ made those comments

I would catagorize Newman as an excellent cover corner. In fact, I would say he is probably top 3. I would catagorize him as an average playmaker. He simply is not very good at making the INT IMO. If he could catch the ball, I'd say he was probably the best Corner in the business. They guy can cover but he does have issues when trying to catch the ball. JMO.

I wouldn't trade Newman for any other corner in the league right now. I think he's the best, all around, corner.

Bailey, Newman, Samuel, Asamugha, Trufant. Then the dropoff is very steep.

Everyone else is average, over-hyped media garbage. And I'm tempted to put Trufant on that list, he gets a **** ton of gift wrapped interceptions.

When Newman is healthy I personally think he's as good as it gets.

Dallas struck gold this year by adding Adam Jones and drafting Mike Jenkins.

He does have pretty good hands. He played some receiver his senior year and I believe even scored a TD in the bowl game that year. I believe it was when K-State played Arizona state.

My bad... I looked up the stats for that game and he had 3 receptions for 47 yards. He also had 2 carries in that game for 26 yards.

Outside of '06, Springs only missed 2 games in the past 4 years.

There was year he had a nagging injury maybe 05 and he would only come in on nickel and dime situations.

Its interesting that Tnew has no trouble catching punts but drops a lot of INTs.
