The Cowboys appear to really have issues with Schultz. I wonder what happened behind the scenes.
why? i think they appreciated him as most fans did but when DS turned down the LTD the year before and forced them to use the FT he was all but gone.. i mean he was good but not 10mil good so replace him with younger cheaper ands possibly better players on rookie deals. Why not?

doubt there was an issue it was simply a decision to not lose much talent and have 3 young TEs on he roster cheaper.

I just think they could have signed him to a team friendly deal. More then he got from Houston at least. I just don’t think they wanted him after he turned the contract extension last season.

Will McClay mentioned Schoonmaker as running under 4.6 (around the 4:00 mark)

The only evaluation of a player that matters is what they do in a real regular season NFL game. Everything outside of that is guesswork and/or hype. I like the Schoonmaker pick ok but until he starts playing in real games that matter (not preseason) none of us will know if he’s good or not. And it may take two full years to know.

Watched Schoonmaker’s Michigan career highlights pass catching tape. He gets downfield and has good hands. Runs really good crossing routes. Don’t understand why he didn’t come out in the 2022 draft. You see his speed and athleticism better in 2021 season. He reminds me of Shultz with more speed.
This is a good bit better than career highlights passing because they barely passed to their tight ends at Michigan last year. He was so good at run blocking and they ran a lot. But you can see in these 5 games in the video that he was open a lot, his sorry qb just wasn’t throwing him the ball. But you’re right he is definitely able to be a weapon in the passing game

Yeah I thought Patterson looked for him more then McCartney did. With college prospects you can’t just go by stats.

I think Schultz badly overestimated his market, and just who and what he is as a player. The Cowboys big mistake was tagging a good TE for a franchise price. The market showed that a year later.

The market was better for him last year and he was coming off a career year then. That may be the reason he went to the Texans. Still upset about the tag.

I don’t see how he could possibly be “upset” about getting grossly overpaid.

Voch is hard to listen to. Way too much filler.
I agree. He used to do some really good videos on players but lately he seems unprepared and disorganized. I couldn't watch this one. 4 minutes in I was too frustrated with the pauses and chaos to watch anymore. I have seen other videos of Schoonmaker and I can see he has potential as a blocker and receiver. I am not angry about his selection. Just curious about why they took him in the 2nd round.

They took him in the 2nd because they rated him higher than what the media did and even going by the media grades he wouldn't have made it to 90.

He would have gotten a lot more in last years market. It wasn't there this year.
Only from the Cowboys. Three teams grossly overestimated the 2022 TE market and foolishly tagged their tight ends - Cleveland, Dallas, and Miami.

Cleveland compounded their error and signed Njoku long term while both Dallas and Miami moved on.

Both Gesicki (Miami) and Schultz (Dallas) signed one year deals elsewhere for far less than the prior year’s tag amount, even if they hit incentives.

The teams that tagged the position screwed up.

Agree with a few of the other posters. The blocking is as advertised and the athleticism shows up on tape.

You just don’t see a lot of YAC and rarely
does he stretch the field vertically. Almost all of his catches are quick outs, crossers, slants or dumpoffs.

Wanted to gift this to the Zone for anyone who wants to actually watch the players film instead of listening to media grades on him. Breakdown starts at 7:00

He put on a textbook blocking clinic, but most fans will only watch him as a receiver.
