The only evaluation of a player that matters is what they do in a real regular season NFL game. Everything outside of that is guesswork and/or hype. I like the Schoonmaker pick ok but until he starts playing in real games that matter (not preseason) none of us will know if he’s good or not. And it may take two full years to know.
Why speak on any player ever if they haven’t played a game yet then? That’s not the point here. This is simply showing what he did in college in 5 games against premiere college opponents.

Not what I’m saying. I’m just saying we don’t have a TRUE evaluation of a player until he plays in the NFL. I appreciate all opinions about what we think he is. I’m just saying at this point we don’t know for sure until he plays.

This was on his patreon. He was doing this live while we were asking questions and breaking it down for the first time live. It wasn’t supposed to be an organized video.
Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation.

Interesting, that’s actually the thing that makes me like his film breakdown the most. Explaining everything that’s happening in the play and even other players jobs.
Listen to the guy that did a breakdown of Mazi (somebody made a thread about it). It was all business without rambling.

Only from the Cowboys. Three teams grossly overestimated the 2022 TE market and foolishly tagged their tight ends - Cleveland, Dallas, and Miami.

Cleveland compounded their error and signed Njoku long term while both Dallas and Miami moved on.

Both Gesicki (Miami) and Schultz (Dallas) signed one year deals elsewhere for far less than the prior year’s tag amount, even if they hit incentives.

The teams that tagged the position screwed up.
People that complain about using the tag are silly.

The Cowboys appear to really have issues with Schultz. I wonder what happened behind the scenes.
Schultz sucked at blocking, especially move blocking and open field blocking.

Schoonmaker was the top move and open field blocker of any TE in this draft.

Basically, if you could give Schultz the blocking ability of Schoonmaker, he would have gotten the big contract that he wanted (from somebody).

That’s one thing I didn’t see in his film, “downfield” routes. Virtually every catch I saw him make was with 10 yards of the line if scrimmage. Given his speed, I was surprised that Michigan didn’t use him more vertically.
Does he look fast out there? No not at all. Does Jalin Hyatt look like a 4.4 WR out there? No, he looks like a 4.3. Some players time faster, some players play faster with the gear on. Bottom line everyone needs to stop reaching with this guys abilities and why he wasn't asked to do things. He's not a great wide receiver. He's probably not even close to what Shultz gave us and I couldn't stand Shutlz. There is more of a chance we just drafted the same guy we already had in Ferguson than a Jason Witten. People need to accept the fact that this was a pure reach pick and he went one round earlier just the same as Escobar, Bennett, Fasano. He's also 25 once the season starts. That's really old and no upside.

There's no doubt I like what I see in the small samples I've had time to watch. His blocking is outstanding and a lot of that has to do with his leverage skills. He's getting under the pad level of the defender and causing them to lose any ability to shed a block. That will 100% translate to the NFL. I see speed and quickness in his routes as well, especially at the point of attack or route break. I'd be licking my chops as an OC right now considering what we already have on offense.
He's 25 blocking 19 year olds.

Jack Campbell is 22. Not sure who the 19 year old's are that you are referring to but they were pretty good last year.

The Hawkeyes ended 2022 ranked second nationally in scoring defense (13.3 points per game), total defense (270.8 yards per game) and yards per rushing attempt (2.83) and No. 6 in pass defense. Iowa was first in yards allowed per play (3.99), way ahead of No. 2 Illinois (4.39). Considering the plight of Iowa’s offense, no feat in modern times could compare to what the defense accomplished. Nine of Iowa’s 13 opponents scored 10 points or less.

You have no clue about the player.
