I would prefer to roll with the guys that have been in training camp. A big problem last season was the the street guys that rolled though here had no time to practice in this defense.

I prefer a borderline NFL player with a full training camp with the team to a borderline player with no training camp with the team.

Having said that, if there is somebody that is a significant upgrade, obviously you have to consider it; however, Dallas is middle of the pack in the waiver claims process. If a good player is released, 15 other teams have to pass on him before the Cowboys can sign him.

Yeah, that's the big part for players that have to go thru waivers. But there are vets who can go where they wish. Then the problem is affording them. So it has to be the right player at the right time for the right money.

I think the odds are good we will go after a veteran DE esp WDE once the cuts start. That seems the best way to pick up a pass rusher off that side IMO. What do you girls and guys think?

I think that has always been the plan since the Martin pick.

I know, sometimes one feels like grabbing the roadrunner and firmly clinching his entire neck In one's hands...

That would be everything that has been wrong with Dallas GM the past 20 years and of the things you as a poster would be blasting them for. Now if there are some young guys that are reasonably priced that are an upgrade then by all means try to improve.

I think we all could agree on half a dozen guys that could go in CC boy's burn barrel.

Not many pricey veterans getting cut at the end of camp...

Nothing to be too excited about but Brandon Graham is a possible cut for the Eagles. He has been deemed a disappointment and not a scheme fit for the 3-4. He is a 1st round pick and would go along with picking up other teams 1st rounders (Weeden, Okoye, McCain).

LOL, keeping scrubs that you came with into TC so you don't have to admit that you suck at getting talented players?

What kind of sorry excuse is that? You do anything within reason to get better at a position if the opportunity is there. Archer is not the first one to come out and say that this defense is the worst he's ever seen since he's been covering the team.

We had to let Ware go because his cap number had inflated so much after 3 straight years of restructuring in years prior to get under the salary cap. Despite the injuries, had we not restructured Ware so many times he would probably still be playing here.

Despite the kool-aid Stephen has everyone drinking, this defense is a product of terrible financial management and talent acquisition, and you'd be a fool to think otherwise.

How else do you fix a line that has been so woefully addressed? Paying for high price free agents isn't the answer but when you can't draft, evaluate your needs or players, and are reactionary instead of being proactive you have little choice. Unless you want to March this embarrassment if a defense out there all 16 games. This would also be different them going after big name targets at the start of FA this is more akin to churning the bottom of the roster done right we can help ourselves

Wrong. They had plenty of room to restructure other contracts and keep Ware if they wanted to do it. Cutting him had nothing to do his issues from restructuring his contract in the past. They had to absorb that cost with or without him on the team. It was his 2014 base salary that was prohibitive for an aging, oft injured player.

The dead money he counts for right now, is all 3 years worth of restructures. (approx $8.57M)

His base salary for this year was $12.25M, had the Cowboys not restructured him 3 times his cap charge would have only been the base salary because the bonus would have been paid out.

What's even more sad, is that this team couldn't afford to pay that $8.57M over the last 3 seasons because they were already over the cap, thus they had to restructure him to push that money into further years.

When they were making the decision to cut him or not cut him, the 8.75M is irrelevant. That money could have come from anywhere because it remains with or without him on the roster.

The only number involved in the decision was the 12.25M base salary.

He would have a higher cap charge for this year though, because they saved about $7.4M by cutting him.

The point I'm trying to get across though is that these restructures inflated that cap charge each time they did it.

If we had never restructured his extension he would only be counting $12.25M against the cap right now vs the $16.15M he would have if we didn't cut him.

The Broncos are being charged $13.5M right this year on their salary cap.

See the difference?
