When verdict is read, why does judge or jury foreman say "Guilty" or "Not Guilty"?

Why not "Guilty" or "Innocent"?

Just wondering.

Because you're not proving their innocence. The prosecution just failed to prove their guilt.

In the eyes of the law, you can be "not guilty" without being innocent.

Yeah, probably more accurate. But not as catchy... "Innocent until proven guilty" just rolls off the tongue. It's all about marketability :laugh2:

Don't you have to consider who the four are? If they are hoods themselves who can benefit from pinning it on Vick, wouldn't you look at their comments with suspicion?

you could say the same thing about Vick "pinning" it on those other thugs

none of them has a great deal of credibility...but the fact that several people have incredibly detailed testimony of seeing him there, his involvement etc etc...kinda shoots down the possibility that Vick "knew nothing about any of this" as he proclaimed

Those poor girls.

They were probably not living close enough to a farm or ranch. Thus, setting a cow on fire wasn't an opinion, so they chose a cat instead. It's a morality thang.

I really hope you are being sarcastic about "those poor girls". What they did was absolutely disgusting. It's really not funny any way you spin it.

It'll take more than an indictment for him to miss any games this year. This is his first strike, correct? Or did he have previous scrapes with the law? He doesn't appear to be a serial offender like his little brother.

well maybe technically it is his "first" strike but how anyone can compare
situations like Pac Man or another repeat offender to this is puzzling. By the letter of the rule, if a man has a dui one night, and a year later gets into an altercation, he is a "repeat" offender. But Vick, supposedly, ran an organized crime ring for at least 5 years. They systematically planned and managed a brutal for-profit organization and even marketed it, one which had animals rape each other, performed torture and killed the animals. This would mean that every day Vick woke up for about 2,000 days he was "offending" but the guy who has two weak days in that same period is the "repeat" offender. It just does not make sense and I really hope Goddell suspends this guy asap.

It is only dog fighting and it is against the law. This has nothing to do with hate for Vick I would feel the same about any idiot who was out there doing these cruel acts. While animal welfare may mean nothing to you it does to the vast majority of people in this country who strongly oppose these types of acts.

If he is convited of this, I hope they put him in a cage with a starving beaten pitbull. EYE FOR AN EYE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To a guy who has a wife, always pissed off about what I haven't done around the house yet, 4 kids who only notice I'm gone when the food runs out and a mountain of business intently watching for my payments to come in on time, dogs are the most important things in life. They're the ones who are happy to see me when I come home.
