Eaglestart read it correctly. While I acknowledged what lewpac said ...sometimes the tree that bends survives the strong winds. lewpac infers that those early championship games (pre superbowl era) weren't as important, or had less value than the much sought after Lombardi trophy Superbowl games of today.

Hence, I must say that regardless of your fan affiliation, today's players, coaches and franchises stand on the shoulders of those leather helmet wearing, roughnecks who played pre-merger; and for far less money. These are the giants of the NFL-AFL ...American football. For the sake of getting the Point of the Eagles not having won a Superbowl yet ...lewpac made his point. But those early NFL Championship games (pre-superbowl era) were just as important and held just as much significance as Championships today!

I think we should all be proud of those early American Football pioneers that formed, and created what the game is as we speak.

I always appreciate and commend fans who celebrate the old-timers, recall with legendry fondness the "pioneers", and hold "the giants of the game" in high regard. It is quite decouros and respectfull, and full of commendation and respect.

It's also a little sappy and over-the-top and , unless you lived during those times, a little disingenuous. Nobody could say an untoward word about this sentiment, so it's a safe and insulated place to be. "Ya' gotta' respect the old timers, they laid the foundation for todays players".........etc, etc, etc.
Whose gonna' critisize that?

The problem with that argument is that, it's a mute point when it comes the NFL Football. Because NO OTHER PROFESSIONAL SPORT has the disconnect in speed, ability, physical prowess, and just pure "bad-***" from past generations as the NFL does.

In other words, probably a lot of MLB players from as far back as the 40's or the 50's could get playing time in todays MLB. A couple/few NBA players from the 50's and 60's could get on the court in todays NBA. Professional Boxers? More than a few could contend and be respectable in todays ring, going all the way back to the 20's.

The NFL? There's probably not a single player, even a star player from the 40's, 50's, and even the 60's who could play in today's NFL. Maybe a Gale Sayers or a Jim Brown or two, but that's about it. Ray Nitchke? Alex Karras? Even Dick Butkus or a Chuck Bednerik.................Couldn't even start in todays NFL and would be lucky to make a roster. I don't even want to talk about the Otto Grahams and the Crazy Leg Hirsches of the world. No way...............

That's the angle I'm getting at when I offer my opinion about "old timer NFL Championships" and the SB Champions of probably the last 30 years or so. Completely different animal, unlike in any other pro sport. NFL players today, from top to bottom, are more like cyborgs. They're all specimens, all freaks of physical nature.

And every decade since the 70's, it gets further and further removed from the days of Johnny Unitas and Len Dawson and Joe Namath. The linemen and D-backs and linebackers, tight ends and recievers, running backs...............forget about it. It's like a whole different game and animal.

That's why, to bring up the three Eagle Championships, the latest of them being in 1960......................it's almost laughable to compare, and the complaint about "NO SUPER BOWL RINGS" is valid and legit.
