Aikman always has a good interview on Mike Francesa's Show.

Pretty bold statement about Jenkins now being above Newman.

I don't agree though.

I still think Newman is better, but both are good.

Jenkins struggled in 2008? Kind of an odd statement from someone who you'd expect to know better.

He mentions the Giants incident -- I think he's actually basing his rookie season off that one play, which is odd. That's someone you expect the casual fan to do, but not someone like Troy.

Either way, it kinda blows his assessment of his play this year (in terms of a comparison to Newman) out of the water.

I love how francessa mentions the playoffs are lining up to have all the good qbs, then doesnt include romo!!!

If only Romo and the Cowboys could impress the all important Mike Francessa.

Jenkins has spoken himself about some of the issues he had with zone coverage schemes as a rookie, and about how he had to think before reacting as a rookie. I haven't listened to the interview yet, but that's probably what Troy is referring to.

Jenkins did have some struggles in 2008.

Don't start acting like he was an All Pro last season.

He's definitely playing the best..

I agree.

Even Wade Phillips said a week or two ago that teams were starting to throw at Terence Newman rather than Mike Jenkins.

When T-New is playing his "A" game, he's the better player, but we rarely see him completely healthy and performing like that.

Jenkins is gaining confidence every game and he isn't up and down like Newman can be.

And finally, Jenx is an emerging ballhawk who goes after the ball and gets it.

Newman has too many drops in that department.

Jenkins is looking way improved from even just a few games ago. Scandrick may not be the starter, but he has improved too. I think Francesa not mentioning Romo was an oversight. It is live after all.

Newman's weakness has always been picking up the deep ball. Jenkins seems not only to pick it up, but act like it's meant for him - almost Deion-like in that respect. When you combine that with his size, his long arms and his make-up speed you have a formula for an All-Pro CB. The laying of the wood is just icing on the cake.

We have a solid future at CB with Scandrick and Jenkins.

Hell of a problem to have. Newman has always been a very consistent above average CB with little playmaking ability.

Jenkins has the 'it' factor you want from a corner - athletic, confident, and he's got ball skills something we've desperately needed in our secondary for years.

I'd say Newman was well above average in his prime. An above average corner doesn't go 19 consecutive games without giving up a touchdown.

Welcome to the world of the simple mind, where there is nothing between "All Pro" and "struggling."

He struggled. If he didn't he would not have been in a battle for the starting job.

And the guy says it himself that he has some struggles because he came into the league never playing anything but man to man at South Florida.

Extreme idiotic homer.

Brilliant.

And accurate.

He played 420 snaps and gave up 22 passes for 258 yards, 2 TDs and had 2 INTs. He had an opposing QB rating of 70.6.

In no way, shape or form did he struggle. He was outshined by his rookie counterpart Scandrick. But that's only because Scandrick had an unbelievable rookie season.

The only thing struggling in this thread is you. To say that Mike Jenkins struggled as a rookie is to admit that either (1) you didn't pay attention or (2) you paid attention and you don't know squat about football. Although I will grant the the fact that you probably both did not pay attention and do not know squat about football.

Theo is correct.

Me, Aikman, the Cowboys coaching staff, half the fan base and the player himself are incorrect.

:laugh2:
